  Mint 1*2's for sale-
Hum--

What a load of BS from the garage-- I had a very similar issue before so I know how it feels-

The best course of action would be take it to RENAULT as in court their opinion stacks up better than any ( I Know the specialists on here are better- however a magistrate wont know that)

You pay renault to strip the engine & diagnose-

You get a copy of the invoice + diognosis which would state that a pulley was loose or the belt wasnt tensioned properly- hopefully they will say the belt wasnt chanegd at all...

Small claims court for repair & costs..... poss inconvience

S

Just saw you took it back to the original garage to diagnose.... mistake as they could do anything to the car to ensure that the original fault was hidden-

Feel for you mate, I hope you haven't paid the money £284 to get the car back, they have no right to keep hold of it, you haven't signed anything to state that they can hold the car back.

Like said, take it to a small claims court and sue them for taking the courtesy car, they obviously put your daughter at risk by leaving you both without any transport without warning.

  Whichever has fuel
A small thing to consider,

If you'd have paid this bill by credit card, you can file a dispute with your credit card company who will recoup your costs until the argument is settled.

Always something to bear in mind when paying for stuff on your car.

They 'stole' their courtesy car back from you... so go to the garage with a recovery truck and your spare key and 'steal' your car back.

2 wrongs dont make a right though?

Get Trading standards involved. As they are a legal body they will have the authority to get to the bottom of this.

You definitely need professional legal advice on this... but as a priority you NEED to recover your car from them.

a long shot, but are they part of the Good Garage Scheme?

They have a complaints procedure and would dent their reputation massively...

IF you decide to pay the bill to recover your car make sure you write 'paid under protest' on it, it might help should it end up going legal which it looks like its going to. Good luck fella, feel sorry for you.

Hello Tom Fotheringham

All our work is guaranteed, both parts and labour, and we would stand by
that guarantee if we or the parts we used were proven to be at fault. An
independent inspection is just another opinion and wouldn't change our view
that our diagnosis is correct. Indeed, it would be surprising if a qualified
engineer came to any other conclusion.

We would be pleased to carry out the work for you but it would be subject to
pre-payment of a sizeable portion of the projected cost on commission, our
timetable and our standard terms.

Then this happened....

I thought this email with a invoice attached was some kind of sick joke, got cross with them over the phone for the first time, they have charged me £284 to me confirm the damage they have done, then when the other garage went to collect the car after I paid the bill, the car was in bits! I just starting laughing in amazement with how they treat their customers. My girlfriend wanted to go round, which I managed to talk her out off.

Hello Tom Fotheringham,

I attach our invoice for the inspection work carried out on your car. We
require this invoice to be settled before we release the car.

Work done:
Auxilliary belt shredded. Charge battery. Remove engine mount and top timing belt cover. Note shreds of auxillary belt under timing cover. Check auxillary pulley/tensioner. Remove front bumper.

Labour £225.00
Lubricants £17.02

£20.00 (£17.02 plus VAT) charged for fuel used in the courtesy car. (Yellow light on on return) lol the fuel was empty when I collected it...
I knew they were tight as when I dropped the car the first time, as I was off on a cruise ship with work & he didn't want to ring me when it would be ready due to the cost of the call, wanted to send a text.

I have been in touch with fair trading officer today, but I need to recover the damaged pulley then get a inspection, but after the week I have had, I'm thinking about just putting it behind me.
Otherwise I might do something stupid that would land me in trouble with the law,

I go on holiday this weekend, with little amount of spending money.... so I should be able to have the car back when I return.

The frustrating thing was the car only when in, as the limp home warning light had come on and my normal garage were booked up for 2 weeks. A very very expensive lesson.

I plan to get the car detailed, and show it some care with 182 wheels & a bit of new rubber after next pay packet so I can get my relationship with the car back on track

I'm now doing good for all the bad things that have happened to me this week..
I bit like my name is earl

Last night chased after someone who left cash in a cash machine, I cut neighbours grass, trimmed a old ladies hedge, any job requests please get in touch....

cheers Tom

dont let them have you mate .. small claims court, trading standards, get every penny back and fight.

f**king c***s

  Maybe a 172 Cup..
As a couple of specialists have posted in here, out of interest how much would labour be for an engine swap? And I guess you would recommend seeing the engine in donor car and also perhaps removing it?

Feel for you chap having all the grief, if it makes a difference you're not the first and you'll not be the last!!

I know it doesn't make a difference, sorry.....

If that was me, that garage would already be burnt down to the ground !!

it's disgusting how they know you have spent alot of money with them

then try and sweet talk you into more work

then you refuse so they add on some other charges for nothing

dont let them get away with it
