spent a few hours polishing earlier..



took a couple of photos after a while...

hmm, still needs a bit of work at the bottom of the 'tubes'

dunno whether to leave the cover silver, or go have it sprayed body colour and have the 2.0l put back on in white and 16v put back on in yellow (as a vinyl sticker)

looks ace mate, bit of a way to go though! :) what are you using?

cover would look great blue (obviously the same colour as your car)

im not polishing the top bit under the renaultsport writing, just the 4 'tubes' that can be seen through the cover.

wet n dry and lots of elbow grease, autosol, and super resin.

did you do all that with the inlet still on?
if so you'll get metal fillings in the engine, unless you covered it up?

good work none the less!!!

That looks really good guy. Did you polish it whilst attached?

I think the cover sprayed blue would look ace! Here's mine (unpolished) off my old Arctic 182.

i did it with it left on yeah.. metal fillings in the engine.. erm how?

if there was anyway for the engine to get metal fillings in it.. then how come it doesnt spurt oil out that gap? or suck air in that gap? rain? dust? dirt?

dropping the cover in on monday to be done.

bodyshop bloke said about 40 quid to spray it arctic blue and put the 2.0l 16v back on in white and yellow sticker.
 
I personally wouldnt want an engine bay full of swarf (not saying it will get into the engine just saying i wouldnt have done it in situ) looking good though.

aluminium oxide paper to remove the roughness, takes ages
40 grit
80grit

wet n dry
240 (for f**king AGES)
then onto 400
800
1200
1500

polish
autosol
super resin



yeah, bodyshops spraying the cover arctic blue and putting the 2.0 16v on in vinyl for £40 ish
will drop it in on monday, should say it will be done mid-end of the week.

quite a bit of alloy dust yeah, just bagged up the coilpack and gave the engine a blasting with the hosepipe.. then a quick wipe with a rag.. cant see any left now.
