Spinning Top Mounts!

  182 cup
Have been getting a knocking noise from somewhere for quite a while now, usually on rough raods but does it whenever it feels like it.

Opened up the bonet today to see if there is anything out of the ordinary. I noticed that the passenger side original rubber top mount is solid but on the drivers side, the large black rubber disc spins quite freely. There is some upwards adn downwards movement from it too.

Could this be the course of my knocking? And even if not is it ment to spin freely?

Cheers, Mike

When the rubber "donught" thing spins, the nut should spin too, they are connected.

Is the nut spinning up and down the thread?

If it is, just whip a socket on it and do it up nip tight. That's how they should be.

I've just seen this thread and i found the same problem last night too on my GAZ coilovers, only bought the car Saturday :S

When manouvering at slow speed i can hear a knocking and thought it might be a heat shield or something. Opened the bonnet last night to check fluids etc and the top mounts and found the drivers side one was a bit loose, did it up hand tight for now, as tight as i could possibly get it so going to nip it up tonight, if not i'll have it in work next week when i've got time and whip the strut off and check it over.
