Sport with no pass, good or bad idea?

On all my other toys I've usually ditched the pass, not tried it on a Clio 172 tho, the cars are light weight anyway so can't see it being to much trouble just wondering if anyone on here has tried it? I've always liked the drive of my cars without it to be fair and only really see it as a benefit while parking

Talk to Markcup, He binned off the PS on his Cup and said he got about 7bhp extra from loosing it as well as the reduction in weight.

There are a few done it now, I think the burpspeed car is non pas too.

It's something I will definately be doing at some point.

Easiest way is to fit a DCI rack..

Burps still running PAS isnt he? Electric pump from a Saxo into his PAS rack....?

Yeah, cool. That's what I thought.

I'll be doing it sooner or later, sounds like a perfect winter job.

You just run it without the electric part plugged in :) MarkCup runs the DCI rack on his AFAIK!

Aye, that I do.

It's manageable but has taken me a while to get used to it.

Released 7bhp (back to back dyno runs proven) and saved about 10-11kgs.

I started out with a 300mm wheel (really f***ing hard work) then went to a 330mm (bit easier) and now I'm on a 350mm and it's alright unless you're parking. I was concerned about how well I could twirl it if I got out of shape on track, but so far, touch wood, I've managed a few saves without dislocating my shoulders.

For what it's worth, here's the dyno graph. The higher/second curve was with no PAS, and a change from standard airbox to an Espace V6 setup. Gave 10bhp all in, and the RR owner says 7bhp is the going rate for losing PAS so that makes 3 or so for the filter.

the only think to consider is that it may feel a little less sharp - more turns lock to lock. Mark - how does yours feel?

I swear mine is less now than it was lock-to-lock. Having said that I've never counted...how many turns on a standard PAS rack?

Next time I take the Cup out I'll count.

Regardless, certainly doesn't feel any less sharp.

What it does feel like, is as though you have the part of the tyre that's in contact with the road actually in your hands...you feel everything the tyre's doing. For that alone it's worth it IMO.

think the std rack's 2.7 or 2.8; reasonably quick

thought about this when i had my rack reconditioned, although the parking effort sounds a pain for a daily

hi Mark, is it just literally a 1.5 2002 dci rack i need? Ball joint is fucked on my PAS and renault want 210 quid so ive decided im putting it on my 2002 172 cup, the 1.5 dci rack is only about 40 quid new on fleabay! My only concern was if it was not as sensitive as the pas, but if you say it is just as sharp then sounds good to me. I just read people talk about it not being as quick, im not sure what exactly that means...i assumed they meant it takes more turns to lock the wheels left to right etc... any comments????

  182cup & 172 racecar
We have got a Saxo electric pump,we can switch it on or off,to be quite honest we run with it on because it friggin hard work with off.

  ClioSport 172 Cup
ive had it looked at and there is alot of play, apparently the passenger side joint on the rack is on its way out.

I have no PAS, orig cup rack with it blanked off, hard to turn when stationary, but totally fine when moving and great feedback on track. saves are possible too.

  Renaultsport Clio 172
Remember somone on here said that the OEM rack could be left with fluid in and just make a closed connection so it doesn't get so tough when stopped. Could this be true? makes sense to me!

Its not the track rod end. Its the end that goes into the PAS rack thats got alot of play. I was told you have to replace the whole rack when it goes here.

^they're talking crap, just replace the track rod (the track rod end goes on the end of the track rod, don't confuse them!) i've done loads, all have been told the same thing as you too

  b/g 182, meg tourer
how does the steering feel sammyhale22? i have had a steering issue for a while now and wondering if it cold be the track rods. the car seems to find any uneven surface in the road and pull towards it. i took it to fred a few months back and also had the tracking done (wich did improve things a little), but its still not right.

  340i
I've seen quite a few with play in the TRACK ROD, not the track rod end.... just replace the track rod as said, will be alot cheaper than a whole new steering rack!

  TVR Cerbera
IIRC i had both track rods and ends replaced by a franchised renault dealer a few years back and it cost me in the region of £80

  ITB'd MK1
the inner joint on the track rod having play in it is VERY common. The dealer you're using either has a cheek to claim they dont know this, or is just lying.

My car has a worn inner end right NOW. Am i changing the rack??? Am i hell

  ClioSport 172 Cup
They warned me about the play in my steering at the MOT also though last Dec and my next MOT is due this Dec, so didnt want it to fail....

  Astra 1.9Cdti SRi
