Only does it while the car is turning over, so for say 0.25 of a second then it starts and is fine.

Now is this cos of the cold weather or something else?

Belt slipping?

Only does it for the amount of time it takes for the car to start, so literally a quick shirp sound then stops once it fires up.

I had this problem mate and three garages later I took it to a specialist and they said its a glaze on the belt mixed with what Danny just said.

3???? FFS a new belt on a cup is £12 and a few minutes to fit, or even just 2 minutes to tighten it up. Did none of them try ANYTHING logical???

Made my did listen for it and he didn't know what i was on about, so don't think i'm to worried, only does it on first start of the day anyway.

My 172 do the same.

In case the squeal is from the gearbox/clutch try to play with the gears 3rd to 4th back and forward about 10 times before turn on the car no squeal at all.
This is the case when the problem is with the clutch bearing.

I should do my clutch soon...
