Few weeks ago I fit new discs and pads (brembo max + mintex pads). Pads were constantly squeaking (rotationally), took pads out and ground the backing plates down. Cured that

Now they just squeal when coming to a full stop

Any solutions welcome

Did you copper slip them? Mixed reviews about that on here as it can cause a mess if they get hot! Depends if you track it
or not I suppose.

Are they 1155 mintex?

If so, they are just a noisey pad IME, if you want quiet pads when applied gentley (ie normal breaking on the road etc) then sadly you will have to change them.

Mintex pads are known for being noisy. More than likely the fact that they are mintex. I'm ordering some 1144's and i know they will be noisy, but for a fraction of the price of DS2500's and great performance I can deal with it.

1144 arent normally noisey, and also they arent anything like the performance of the DS2500/1155, you are thinking of the 1155 by the sounds of it mate.

They are more than enough for a lightweight rusty 1.6 fiesta though ;) most of the zsoc members use them on their fast road/track cars as they are milder than the DS2500's.

And they really are quite noisy.

Mintex are always a bit noisy, all compounds. They usually supply stick on anti-squeel backing pads, but if you don't have these it's acceptable to use a smear of grease

Ive used 1144 pads on many different cars, including one of my clios:

And I have never had any significant noise in any of them.
1155 are a totally different kettle of fish but if installed correctly 1144 you are only ever going to hear if you are driving along with the windows down specifically listening for it IME.

That makes me feel a little better. Not to mithered either way.

Yeah they are the 1144 pads. The rubber backing has been stuck on them too

Is it worth giving the backing plates another tickle with a grinder?

how much did you grind them by? Enough to keep the standard anti-rattle shims? if not, do this and refit them

Like Dan says most if not all Mintex stuff squeals. I have 1144s in my Wilwoods currently and even with the rubber backing they squeal a bit on low speed stuff. They're brakes at the end of the day though, it's not a crime

The shims ares till in. The squeal is getting louder though, that's the problem (radio gets drowned out easily) a friend has exactly the same pads and discs - and no noise on his

Ive never had squeal like that on mintex 1144, and ive been using them on and off for about 15 years or so now on various projects so I really think there is something actually wrong with your setup somehow, pads sticking at an angle or something etc.

pads too tight in the calipers, it can't be anything else really

  Dodgy one
Cant say mine get particularly noisy either, Occasional squeal while cold and just abouts to stop, But while slowing down i cant hear a thing, Its certainly not enough to drown out the radio or attract attention

They have been filed use the rattle shims and have the sticky pads on them too, which are a bit mullered now mind.
