Standard 172 Exhaust Sleeve Pictures Please?

  2002 Clio Sport 172
Anyone still on there standard 172 Exhaust and can take me a picture of the bit where the sleeve is that joins the back box

As im sure the knocking im getting is the bracket nut hitting the heat shield and I wonder if Renault have put it on the wrong way round!!

Anyone help me..

Thanks Gemma

Could be. You may be able to slacken it off and twist it round, but it may then blow. A new one is only £18, so not a big deal. They are a sort of a 'fit once item', and in my experience dont work if taken off and refitted

Many thanks.. think i will give that a go as you say and just get a new sleeve, i think the brackets have been put on facing the heat shield resulting in the knock.

Might also be worth changing the rear exhaust mount. Its by the rear box, square with a rubber X. This sags over time. Again a new one is around £18. The bolts on my sleave iirc are horizontal with the car and rear beam, so not to hit the car, or beam :)

  Lots of Alfas
I thought I had a picture but cannot find it. The guy that had my car before me paid out for a full new Renault exhaust! If you;ve got knocking at the rear it could be loads of things:
-nackered/leaking shocks
-rear suspension mounts/cracked rubbers
-loose toolkit in the boot
-snapped spring
-loose trim, loose rear wiper mechanism

Thinking about it can you bend the heat shield away from the exhaust more?

Thanks for the reply, i've had the car checked and they couldnt see anything other than the top clamp nut hitting the heat shield, have pulled it away as far as i can, but it still catches, which makes me think the clamps on wrongly.

i'm not 100% if its the same knock i can hear, and cant see why its only gettng worse now and ive had the car nearly a year..

so really confused!
