Standard 172 Mk2 CD player.

Does anyone know if the standard single slot CD player in the mark 2 172 is CD changer compatible? I was too tight to get the CD changer upgrade, but I have a changer from a previous Renault that (I hope) will work with it. Im not really interested in upgrading the whole stereo cos I only listen to Max Bygraves and other easy listening...

Thanks.

Yes, they are CD changer compatible and earlier ones came with a changer as standard fitment...

Thanks folks...hopefully I can use the Alpine/ Renault changer that I managed to salvage from my Megane Coupe, Ill need to get the cable that goes from the head unit to the changer (or get the garage to get one, cos I aint fitting it!) Dont know why they stopped fitting the changers as standard. I was told that when I ordered mine it wouldnt come with one, although the brochure said it would. Think I can just fit it under the passenger seat, is that where other folk have theirs?

my original one was fitted under the passenger seat, but there is a cage that it attached to, which I doubt you will have.

Now I have a new HU and CD changer its in the boot.. but my xbox will probably be going under the passenger seat if I can work out how to get it there.

Hmm...Im kind of hoping that they can bolt the changer into the floor or something, cos I dont have the original cage that the changer came with...I assume that the tray thing thats under the passenger seat can come out easily so the changer can go there instead. (Whats the tray for anyway? Ive never used it)

My Alpine Autochanger was fitted by Reno in the boot and the cable runs through the car. They charged almost 2 hrs labour costs!!! Taking the p*ss cos It really is easy to fit, just run the wire down the door sills, under the rear seats.

Now Ive seen how they did it wish id done it myself.

Hardest part is drilling holes in the boot!

OOOOOHH dont drill holes in the boot.. asking for trouble if you do that.

Build a false floor.. thats what I have just done for my 172, I will post pics up and you can see what its like, I had to take into account the need for access to the spare wheel though.

Cheers folks...I think Ill still get a garage to fit it. Ray Smith in Kirkcaldy have said theyll fit it for about £30.
