Standard Exhaust Without Silencer

Car  Renault Clio 182
Recently noticed the 182 exhaust was blowing slightly and after having a look it's coming from the silencer as it's got a few small holes. The rest of the exhaust is I'm pretty good condition, no rust or anything and don't really want to spend stupid money on a new standard system.

My question is I was thinking of just cutting out the silencer and welding a stainless steel pipe there. I've heard that on 197's this creates a power loss spot in the revs. Is that the same on the 182?

Thanks
