Starting issues AGAIN!

Put previous threads up about this and I thought I'd solved it with a new starter motor but my starting problems have come back again.

Car will not start at all and needs to be bump started to get it going, when you turn the key there nothing there at all and all you get is a click from the starter motor/solenoid. I was told I could have teeth missing on my flywheel so the starter had nothing to push against while it was being engaged, I seriously doubt it's that because the chances of it hitting on the exact same spot every time are very slim.

I'm going to have ago at cleaning the spade connector tomorrow to see if that's causing the problem. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Did you say you changed the battery?

Check the main power feed crimp that goes to the starter motor itself too. BTW if you need to take it off, it does come out of the top, I got some pics of it coming out through the top when I did mine ;)

No I didn't change the battery, still on the same one the previous owner had fitted. Might get a new one if all else fails.

Lol. I didn't dis-believe you when you said it will come out through the top by the way.

Haha I know only messing lol.

Is it only just sometimes it does this, or every time after its been sat for a bit?

I has this albeit on the williams, couldn't figure it out was doing my nut in! in the end it was a dodgy wire to the starter, chopped it back, put a new wire/connection in and it always fired after that.

Funnily enough my car won't start either, although I have a sneaking suspicion that it has something to do with the engine being in pieces. :p

My battery is out of the car at the moment if you want to try it, not convinced it's any good either though tbh lol; car has been sat for a while. You're welcome to try it though if you can get round to pick it up.

Whilst messing under the bonnet this morning I noticed this plug was disconnected in the image below. This must be the reason why my starter motor won't fire. I've tried to look where it could plug in to but can't seem to find where it goes.

thats the starter solenoid wire! Goes from your key barrel to there, and engages the motor.

It goes onto a spade connector on the top of the starter motor solenoid, bit fiddly but is doable with a bit of patience.

You can see the spade pin on here...

How's yours going mate? Had much luck with it? and cheers but I don't think it's my battery that causing my problem after finding that disconnect plug in the image above.

So that's definitely my problem then?

tbh it sounds like tha batterys dead especialy with the weather were having it just kills them (cold/damp)

defently werth getting it cheacked and probly getting a new one if yours is old anyway

Easiest way I found is put your hand in flat, under the manifold but on top of the starter from the gearbox side....you will be able to feel the little spade connector then and hopefully wiggle the wire back onto it!

I think the spade pin where the plug has come off is bent towards the starter. I can't get anything tool wise in there to try and bend it back so will that mean the starter motor will have to come out?

Probably yes :(

Disconnect the battery, undo the 3x 16mms holding the starter in place and take it out the gap. Sort the pin, connect the solenoid wire before putting it back into place, then bolt it all back together....sorted ;)

Lol, you make it sound so simple, I wish it was though as I haven't really got the right tools for undoing those bolts holding the starter in, just had a look and I can't get the sockets/wrench I have down there to undo them.

I've just rang the AA and got someone to come out to it, got a feeling they'll just tell me to bump start it and take it to a garage though.

ha yeh, thats your issue - mine was practically in half further up the wire! so it was connected but never always working - i'd rather have had your problem!

Pain in the arse isn't it?

I'm just hoping the AA bloke will sort it, could do without more expense with it going to a garage.

Good news mate glad it's working again. :)

Mine's going alright, but whoever decided on the bolt positions for the inlet manifold was an absolute tard. Took me an hour to get the first three or four bolts and a further 3 hours to almost undo the last one. Hopefully get it off tomorrow and then the head should come free. Massive crack in the headgasket though, so at least I know that was the problem!

I know what you mean mate, I've come across some strange bodge jobs on mine which I've had to correct.

At least it looks like you've found your problem then and you can start getting a rough idea how much it's going to cost to get it running again.
