  ibiza cupra
the past couple odays ive gone to start the car and it has just not turned over. all the lights come on on the dash but when i try and start it it just tries once then dies but i then manage to start it off jump leads. could this be the starter or ignition coil and is it a common thing on them? ta chaps.

have a search for dead battery on the posts.

if your managing to jump start the car and it runs fine till you turn it off then id imagine the battery is a good place to start testing. it shows that with power from another battery or car your car is getting the juice to turn the engine. and if the engine is working after that it shows there is no other fault.

get a multi meter on it and see what it says. it may have a light on the battery indicating its performance otherwise take it to a garage like kwik fit to test it (for free).

then if the battery is rueled out you can start testing other things.

well took it to halfrauds today and they tested it and the battery was foooked. was sposed to have just over 13 volts and only had 12 and is sposed to have at least 420 amps starting power but was only at 34% which is about 140 amps so that cost me a ton for a new one but now the red stop light and battery light are still on when i turn the ignition on and all the other lights go out. but they do go out when i turn the engine over and stay off so im thinking its juat an error loged on the ecu that needs clearing so ill get it on a computer when i get chance and see if that does it. anyway thanks for the help

try pressing the trip computer button at the end of the stalk and turn your ignition to the on position- this will make your needles dance around a bit and should reset fault codes i think.
worth a shot anyway
good to see it was the battery!
your usually cheaper out of a motor factors though.

just had a go but the stop light still stays on untill the engine is turned over so ill get it looked at.
