std ecu (remapping) FAO tuners!

A few of the tuners/specialists are now offering uprated ecus call them what you want Renosport, grp N, Clio Cup etc etc. Does this mean they have now been cracked so the std one could in theory be remapped to suit any future mods or is it just a case of the Reno sport ones being copied?

If they have been cracked why do people bother with piggy back or aftermarket units, the mitsis and scoobs seem to do ok on remapped std ecus so it does save massively on costs.

The present ECU has been cracked BB (via fastchip) have cracked it and can use the ecu to manage a turbo setup (more complex than just a simple remap).

Aftermarket ecu with slightly uprated maps are £250 or so and plug in and play an can be removed to sell the car on as stock later on or returned to stock for servicing. A remap is £500 or so and cannot be easily returned to stock when you resell or take it in for warently work.

stu8v, As edde said we have worked closely with fastchip on this one to be able to map the original i.e. the system has been cracked.

To put it simply, we can of course map it to do almost anything that a whole aftermarket system would do and certainly a hell of a lot more than a piggy back item. Also it is very stable, by this im not sure how well piggy backs will stand up to confusing the original item long term, which could lead to possible shut down. I know a certain person who had this trouble when trying to use a piggy back for a turbo application.

Doing it this way retains any of the features and items of which the ECU speak to unlike full aftermarket kits which feature new looms and sensors. We are currently working on throttle body kit which will retain the most of the standard sensors, but will be ultimately be controlled by an original re-programmed ECU.

We will offer custom re-maps on a minimum of 10 cars at roughly £350 + VAT, which is a very good price for what you get.

Stu, Chip Wizards AKA Wayne Schofield has been able to map cars on their original ECUs for years from what Im told. He remaped 2 lives old engine using the original ECU.

From what 2 live told me (and hes sh*t with anthing non mechanical! lol) Wayne copied his ECU, used a blank 20p chip that was exactly the same but can be plugged into the laptop and maped on the RR... so £350 total cost including RR time and the results cannot be argued with, the went from 14.4 - 14.5 second SQMs to 14.0 dead and on the road much more drivable with more power and torque available at lower revs.

Thats surely not "reprogramming" then? (as your adding a new bit of hardware)

Sounds cool, but its a bit more detactable than stock remaping.

no thats just the same as a unichip, not recodeing the ECU

I dont think Chip wizards can remap the 172 ECU the older Mk1 CLio ECUs are different.
