How easy is it to build a stealth shelf?

Want to maybe try and build one over the summer as a kind of project, as you can pick wood up from B&Q for 50p lol.. massive "off cuts"

Don't even know whered you'd start tho tbh so any guides hints & tips welcome please!

Danke!

Dont put 6x9's on a shelf! Just build a box for them, they will sound awesome. I just made one for my mate, he picked up some Vibes from Halfrauds for £40. I've heard ther same speakers in my friends car, on a shelf. They lack so much bass compared to the boxed ones!

Why don't you for a project get a class amped front end, then sit back in one of your mates cars with dodgy 6 x 9's infinatly baffle loaded. Then compare the difference. For the price pick the front end mate!

lol!

I've got a set of speakers in the rear quarter panels that will be getting amped up at some point!

I may do that first and see what it sounds like i suppose!

Well you deffinutly dont want to put 6x9's on a shelf if you have a sub in the boot, it will destroy the 6x9's!

The pressure from the sub pushes on the cone of the 6x9 so they struggle to move properly. i was always advised never to use 6x9 with a sub. You want to concentrate on getting a good sound from the front as that will make it sound so much better. think of it like watching a concert you wouldn't stand with your back to the music which is basically what you are doing by putting all your speakers behind you.

True!

So some Components in the front and some coaxles in the rear all amped up then?

+1

Uprate your rear and front speakers. If poss fit some bigger than standard size speakers in the fronts.

Could also upgrade the wires and possibly amp the speakers.

Ive got just 6x9s and im happy with them, Obvisouly not as good as uprated front and rears with a sub, But it does me.

Yeah i would as that will sound best. If you are really serious you could sound deaden the doors and upgrade all the wiring but tbh its not necessary unless you are really serious about the sound quality.

lol nah not that serious mate, just wanted a bit more sound as the bass seems to be overpowering the rest of the treble etc!

Then definatly get the front end done. The stage as it is called, should be ahead of you and as far away as possible. Good quality components in the front will hlep you achieve this. Stuff the rears all together, a good set of components goes a lot further than a naff set and naff set of co-ax's in the rear.
