Steering Problem Update

  Skoda Fabia vRS

right, it did seem better after i had the new rack, but its not, after drivin to Burnley today it was quite scary.......

what it seems to be doing now is, i can be driving along straight, hit a bump in the road, the steering wheel stays in the same position however the wheels seem to be going in a diff direction..........it does only seem to happen when i hit a bump, but it doesnt seem to matter how big the bump is, sometimes i can hit a big one and it wont do it, sometimes it does it on a small one.........

its like this

[ ---- ]

bump in the road........then

/ ---- /

i havent had the steering alignment done since the rack went on, so i know its well out..........however because of how low my car is at the front the only place that can do it is Demon Tweeks as they use different equipment than most........and its £35 a time......i dont wanna get it aligned to find that wasnt the problem and then have to have it done again when something else is found and changed

i know really i should get the alignment done and go from there, but if possible i want to avoid having it done twice, as it will cost me £70 !

well now u get a well deserved dose of i-told-you-so ;-)

it can only be what has been mentioned before. wishbones, rose joint, struts, wishbones bushings, subframes.

how much is the car lowered?

PS. u cannot test the bushes just pulling a little, u need a large lever, or try the car on one of those equipments used to test suspensions during MOT.

when i took it the garage they couldnt find anything wrong, so they suggested changing the rack, which i agreed to, and when they undone the track rod ends the rack was really floppy so i thought that might have been it

our cars dont have rose joints (spherical bearings).

Check bottom ball joints, axial joints on the track rods and rod ends.

the rack, and track rod ends, are a matter of days old.....

ball joints are about 5 months old....

Still sounds like the column to me. Thats exactly what mine was like til I had it done.

Where you based Brun? Theres a top independent Renault specialist in Stockport that both I and paul1178 have been to and they really are good. Theyd probably be willing to at least take a look maybe F.O.C. They looked at mine F.O.C.
