Stereo Install help ... how the hell does it all fit in?!

Hi All,

In my 182 I had a Alpine XDA-100, the iPod controller unit and also a Parrot hands free kit.

Last week we upgraded the hands free kits at work to the new Bury systems.

Now, the guy who installed the system hasn't put the stereo back in properly so it actually slid out the other day when I pulled away from the traffic lights!

I've tried to push it all back in again but there's obviously something catching at the back - I've had the whole thing out and tried to re-arrange the cables but just can't seem to slide it back in.

I had it all professionally fitted last year so it's kind of annoying - they had the dashboard off to sort out all of the cables etc.

The guy is coming back on Monday to have a look but if I can I'd rather get it sorted before then so someone doesn't try and steal the HU!

How easy is it to remove the dash to tidy up all of the cables etc? Any tricks to fitting all of the cables behind?!

Cheers,
Simon

Its a right b**ch to do :( had to sort mine out last week as I had to put in another RCA cable in the back, it still isnt perfect now either.

I pushed the aerial cable below the firewall grommet and put the rest going above it, still something blocking the back because I only managed to get it to lock on one side of the panel, the pressure I had to push on it though was quite worrying.

My head unit was catching on all the child lock/hazards/whatever-the-3rd-one-is wiring. Instead of flowing over the top of the headunit it was being pushed behind the headunit where there then wasn't enough wiring to push the head unit all the way in. Solved by taking the fascia for the hazards off, removing switches from fascia, inserting head unit whilst manipulating location of wiring with a long screw driver.

I've tried that Steven to no avail ..! :(

I may just wait until Monday when the guy can do it all himself. See how i feel tomorrow!

I would try Stevens idea. Taking off the fascia for the hazards off. It will let you reach into the cables behind the head unit a bit and move them around. If it's sliding out, do you have a metal cage surround that it clicks into? If not, you might want to try wedging a bit of rubber or cardboard in each side of the head unit to make it stay. Then put the plastic trim over the top of the head unit so it hides those bits. That's what I've done with mine anyway. Hope you get it sorted!

I'm going to take an amateur guess and say you have either blown a fuse or two... or you have managed to unplug something important whilst fiddling around. Sorry I can't be of more help dude, hope you get it sorted.

Whats the immobiliser light on the speedo doing? Assuming 182's have this of course.

The service light is flashing ... can't see the immobiliser light flashing - the one by the gear stick?

Not too sure where it would be on the newer ones, on mine its next to the display on the speedo. Think the one by the gearstick is the alarm LED
