Stop light on, car won't start?

Car  182 FF, A6 Avant
Yet more issues!

Car has been fine since I've had it, got in it just now and it wouldn't start. I can hear relays clicking, ignition is on, key turns, but nothing.
The stop light is on, but the immobiliser light has gone out. We bumped it and got it home. Once home I stopped and restarted it and it started ok. But, once I'd locked and unlocked it, it wouldn't start again.

Any ideas as to where I need to start?

Cheers.

Playing around with it now, bay fuses seem ok, but it will start sometimes and not others!

Nothing. I can hear the fuel pump prime and various relays clicking away. Can't hear any solenoid clunking though..

If it goes with a push it must be starter at a guess, where i would look first, try and get a test light / multimeter onto the solenoid signal wire.:approve:

Cool, will give that a go tomorrow. It's the intermittent nature of it that's confusing.

try the connector on the starter? mine did that for months had to wiggle the connector everytime and it started. sorted it by putting copper grease on it.

Left the battery disconnected overnight just to see if it had any effect. Reconnected it this morning and now it starts first time for about 20 attempts in a row!?
