strange sound from engine.....

Car  R35 GTR
sounds like air being sucked into the coolant somewhere, plus a little white stuff under the oil filler cap. Is this normal after an engine rebuild.

Plus I can definitely smell coolant out of the exhaust. :dapprove:

Just want some reassurance it's not the obvious.

And can you guys give me some info on how you would test the HG, apart from compression testing.

na i doubt it, its a specialist tool

its a special tube thing that you put this chemical in that changes colour if it detects gas

If u manage to borrow one of those tools Fred is on about, make sure the fluid is ok. It has a use by date on it

As previously said you need a sniff tester or otherwise known as a block tester. These will be available from most motor factors, or you could take it to a garage and ask for a block test, should cost no more than £10-£15 (at the most).

if youve got a milky substance on your oil cap then looks like your head gasket is going or gone!

Well it's not looking too good, but all should be sorted. I am hoping it is something simple like a split hose, turbo leaking or the charge cooler leaking.

If not the garage have it now. Thanks for all the info.

Was a false alarm, but always makes you wonder when you hear new noises. Just turned out to be the crappy silicone hose splitting at the turbo.
