I put my car in to get new rear discs fitted on Friday (Original Renualt discs) the car wasn't used over the weekend Sat/Sun, then when i went to go to work on Monday my brand new discs looked like this!! (see pictures)

Is there anyway to stop the surface rust building up? i didnt expect the discs to be caked so badly within 2 days of not using the car.

Anybody help?

Cheers

They are steel.

Steel + water = rust.

Not much you can do! lol

Greenstuff discs have some coating on to stop the bits that aren't swept rusting, but they'll be clean after a short spell of braking, don't worry! :)

Thanks for the quick replies. I'll just have to use the car more to stop them rusting.

My clio disks look like this within minutes after washing, don't worry.

Yeah, I've washed my car before and not moved it for a week after, and when I did move it there was one massive BANG from the discs, as I presume the pads had sort of rusted to the discs.

They look fine if they are new you havent got to worry.
If they look rusty and have pitting where the rust has eaten into the metal (on old disks) an mot tester may pick up on it.

  Whichever has fuel
Spray them, front and back with lashings of WD 40.....

(Joke, please don't actually do this!)

maybe we should just say that you should not put anything on your disks..

apart from maybe a layer of paint

That's always a bit alarming if you wash the car and put it in the garage straight away....pads just bind slightly to the disc due to the rust.
