suspension gremlins

  "Navy" N17 TWO
Just got the car lowered at the weekend :)

I know Renault are famous for rattles but I'm a bit worried

@
When driving on a rough patch of road (bumps/holes)
I get a clanging noise comming from the front end - like under the bonnet or the dash

@
I have a constant knocking in the roof (like a tapping/clicking noise)
I'm guessing that would be the sunroof fixtures comming loose?

@
When I'm turning corners at low speeds (in town maybe at 10-15mph)
I get a really wierd knocking noise from the left rear qtr-panel

How can I source/try to eliminate these "gremlins" ?

lol - its lower and stiff .... time for the bits to start falling off mate ;)
On a serious note, check the remus is clearning okay and not rattling off of the rear Beam etc.

i brought mine a couple of months ago, it had already been lowered. i noticed a knocking sound coming from the rear left, first of all i just thought it may be by spare tyre jumping up and down but took it to a garage and they said it was the suspension knocking against my exhaust because it had been lowered. iv have therefore got to raise it by an inch and according to the mechanic it should be fine.

the roof is due to a piece of felt moving out of place in the handle. Best way to fix this is take it into reno if its under warranty, or if its out of warranty or your sick of taking it in (like me ;)) then release the sunroof glass by pressing that little red button in on the handle. Then remove the glass by lifting the glass into an almost vertical position it will then come out (even easier than it sounds). Once you have done this look at where the handle was. You will see a flat piece of metal. There should be a piece of felt on there (self adhesive) but it tends to get squashed and moved by opening the sunroof. So either move it back into place and secure with some tape or replace it with something more suitable. I got some more self adhesive felt from WH smith and its worked very well. The noise is the glass vibrating against the metal part and the felt usually cusions this......... as the french say... if it rattles stuff sumt in it...

lol @ Rob ;) wesb27 - I'll look into that today thanks

joshydee I'm guessing from your little guide you have a manual sunroof?

How do you get the glass out of an electric sunroof one?
A guy at reno told me rubbing vaseline around the seal might help

I still can't work out what is making the clanging noise in the front end - loose bolt or something maybe?

ahhh right. ive not heard of the electric one rattling but yes its probably the seal binding a little. Vaseline should do the job.

Don't know if this would eliminate the sunrrof glass from the equation but when i was driving today I pushed my hand against the glass and can still hear that awful racket :(

Is there anything under the headcloth that would be loose?

As for the noise in the front end - we checked the engine bay yesterday and there's nothing loose.
Just the usual cables dangling around could do with a tying-up

The guy in the bodyshop said it would be a good idea to let the coilovers bed-in before I start poking around for rattles & gremlins.
I can live with that :)
