Swapping Head Unit Trouble

  Ranault Clio 1.6Si
Afternoon Guys & Girls,

My first post.

I have a Mk2 8v 1.6 Si. I have just swapped the existing cassette headunit for my CD headunit but it wont fit because of a small round rubber/plastic bumber object in the back of the dash stopping it from fitting in nicely.. So now im stuck with a headunit pocking out about half a cm.

Anyone came across this when swapping their audio headunits??

I have also attached a picture of my car :)

Welcome to CS :)
Nice clean car mate.

The only problem i came across when changing my head unit, was fitting all the wires/cables back into the dash.

It might be helpful if you could post a picture of the offending 'rubber bumper object'.

usually if its what im thinking of this thing just screws out if you can get your hand in there if not get a pair of pliyers and try twisting it otherwise you will have to take the dash off...... not 100% sure if this is what your talking about. let me know if it works

I had similar problems but in the end I think I just ended up taking off the rubber bit so that it fit right in and had to do a lot of fiddling to get the wires out of the way also ! Think i used electrical tape to just move wires out of the way..just thot id give u an idea of what i did altho it may not be necessarily ur problem lol.

yeah it is wha i thought you were talking about get a set of pliyers get a firm grip and pull that off the wires are a it tricky but there are two places these can go bother are down the sides of the unit if you put your hand in you will feel a drop to the bottom right and left slide the cables in there.

this is no joke, grab a hammer and screwdriver and tap it like a chisel would to get rid of it in the back of the dash

Its a Panasonic headunit.. had it on my old car... Mk1 Punto 1.1. It looks tidy and seems to suit the car ok. May well upgrade some time in the future.

In regards to the other message about smashing the bumper off.. I managed to get the headunit to clip in by moving the wiring about. It just barely fits but im happy.

Cheers!

Does the headunit have a rubber sleeve on the metal stud at the back? I had to take the sleeve off my alpine just leaving the metal part or it wouldn't fit in the hole in the middle of that.
