Tailpipes covered in soot

Hi there, I've used Autosol on my tailpipes and they came up really well. However, after a short drive they are black with soot again and the only way to get rid of it is to polish them... again.

Is there anything I could put on them after polishing maybe that will let me just wipe them down and it'll all come off for them to be shiny again? A bit like waxing a car.

Not a massive detailer so will need pointing in the right direction. Cheers :)

They should just require a wipe over mate, it depends how long you're leaving it between washes and how much you boot the car around.
Id maybe try wire wool to get all of the crap off them, then attack them with a full tube of autosol lol

I believe autofinesse mercury is a metal polish that is supposed to have a small amount of protection in it. JD and Russ has some / use it reguarly so is best to wait for them

As for sealing it to keep it clean properly, GTechniq C5 is really the only product I would use if I was ha ing that much trouble with it and wanted to keep it clean. But it's expensive, although you'll use very little so you could sell it on or seal your wheels

Thanks for all the replies, good to know there is actually stuff out there for the job. I'll try some of that Mercury polish and also the wax for afterwards I think. Cheers!

Jamie tbh any normal wax or sealant will burn off. Using a ceramic sealant or metal sealant is the only option.

Look at the Gtechniq or Nanolex range. It's the only thing i'd bother putting on an exhaust tip after deep cleaning, the soot just wipes off.

I use the metal polish in a purple tub with a green lid (can't remember it's name) and its great on decatted yoz :) I did over 500 miles between a wash and it still looked good compared to doing about 150 without it and they turn black lol

Thats the one :) it is really good, I tried autosol and I wasn't very good IMO

This stuff really does give a lasting finish :)

I apply it with very fine wood spec wire wool (to stop bad scratches when removing the soot) and wipe excess of with a micro fibre cloth
