Taking Hub Off.

Taking the NS Front Hub off to get the wheel bearing changed all the nuts have come off apart from the one that holds the track rod end to the hub.
Any idea how to get this off. It’s just spinning the whole thing. I put the jack under it to try push it up but it still turns the whole thing.

Just went and tried that and the Whole thing is still turning. The nut is at the end of the bolt just got a lil bit more to do.

If the nut is still on, how can a splitter be used? Put serious amount of weight on it mate.

I'm sure ou could use it you need to use it to force the nut to stay in place.

i used a large G-clamp, couldn't find my other tool

we normally jack underneath the track rod end lot of force has to be applied though

Jack is the only way, jack up the underneath of the ball joint quite a bit, keep jacking it and trying until it doesnt turn, thats how I did mine...

Yes that’s how I learnt to do it with a jack. I jacked it to the max of my jack 2day it didn’t work I will give it another try tomorrow if it still don’t work its angel grinder time.

I fucked it up I angel grinded it but went too far in and cut the thread of the bolt. So I’m going have to change the track rod end. What’s the best way to get the tracking right?

take it to a garage and have it laser aligned?!

Could i not do it my self.
Like place the new one next to the old one before i take it off. And make sure i get it the same ??

Yeah measure your turns when you take the old one off, but you might still have to play with the adjustment to get it bang on

Do it roughly by counting the turns! but get it checked, be cheaper in the long run, it may start chewing tyres, and 90% of time your steering wheel will be on the piss!

Pain the thread so when you stick the new one on you only go as far as the paint mark.
You'll still need to check it whcih isn't difficult though.

Yes mate, Thats the same idea i had in mind. Prob going to use a big permanent marker.

also make sure that the track rod end is the same length if its a pattern part.
