Tall driver in a cup?

Hi guys,

I'm starting to look for my next car and the 172/182 Cup is looking very likely, however i'm unsure whether i'll be able to fit in one cos i'm pretty lanky at 6'4". Also, having watched the top gear review of the 182 Cup, Clarkson says the pedals are close together, I have size 12 feet, will this be a problem? I have searched for this on the forum but not found an answer...

I'm currently in an Escort and just about fit in, plus my right foot is at an odd angle for heel/toe downshifts, will the cilo be too small? If so, is there any way around it? Would a bucket seat put me further back or just lower?

Cheers in advance for the help, i aim to test drive a few Cups over the coming weeks so will keep you all posted. Everything I have heard about these cars is good so i just hope i can squeeze inside!

Plenty of tall drivers around - I'm 6'5" (big feet too!) and fitted in my 182 ok - plenty of head/knee room etc. Driving position wasn't ideal (bit hunched over) and my back hurt for a couple of weeks at first but you get used to it!

Alternatives are to get a 182 with Recaro option (a bit better), or replace the seats yourself - some of the guys on here have aftermarket seats in their Cups and the driving position is much lower and spot on IMO

Well I don't know about the cups but I can't see why they'd be any different to a FF.

The pedals are fine? They aren't close together imo. I have size 10/11 feet and I have no problem.

And height isn't a problem either, plenty of head room, although you are a couple of inches taller than me. Still, can't see it being a problem.

I'm sure you'll find out if any of these causes concern on a test drive anyway!

6'4" and size 11's here and find my 182 fine. Loads of legs room and pedals are spot on, not to close like in 106GTi's etc.

Seat is fully back so back seat passengers on the drivers side would be a no-no.

If Clarkson think's the pedal's are close together in the 182, he should try the saxo vts.. I struggled sometimes with them. No problem with size 11's in the clio though...

VTS and 106 Gti have the worst pedal box in the world, put me off the 106 GTi enough not to buy one! Find it odd Clarkson found the pedals in the 182 bad, when he loved ther 106 GTi!

I've got size 10 feet, and my last car was a 106 GTi. I honestly didn't have any problems with the pedals at all, strange...

Though yea, you will be fine with the 182 too. Just go and drive one to make sure! :D

I'm only 6', my head is touching the roof lining (and a bit more 1st thing in the morning!!).

But I do have a nerfed back and as a result sit with the seat as upright as it goes. So witha bit of tilt you'll be ok I should think.

I'm a size 10 foot and have no problems driving with rigger boots on at work (makes heel and toeing a bit more difficult tho!! LOL)

Size 13s here (and only 6ft, bit out of proportion!), pedals are generally fine but I tend to struggle with the clutch foot a bit as resting it on the side-plate means I often catch my foot under the clutch when lifting it up.

I'm 6' 4 and its no problem done 59k in the car I've got back trouble so I'm not sure if the cars added or not to it but I've done long drive without any trouble.
I've got size 16 shoes and don't have any trouble infact its better than the Mk3 for foot space.

im 6ft 2ish.....ive driven my miss's, 172 & i had no problem! but dont bother with a 106/saxo/corsa there made for womens feet! but clios are cool!

Size 16?? LMAO. That is huge mate. I'm 6'3 size 13's and really struggle with nice, cool shoes...you must have a mare.
I fit in fine, even have the seat forward a bit, when fully back my arms just feel too stretched.

^^^ Crikey!! Lol. I'm 6ft and sometime i dont have the seat all the way back, but i like to be reclined to try and get a better driving position...

You should be fine...

Tyson.

I'm 6'1" -ish and have no problems with headroom. Ideally I'd like the seat to be a bit further back (34" inner leg) but it's as far as it'll go at the moment. Unfortunately if it did go further back then the steering wheel would be too much of a reach away for me.

But it's certainly not uncomfortable, just not perfect.

I'm 6'1" with size 10 feet...heel/toe shifting is mo problem at all, either rolling the ball of your foot or actually using heel & toe...both work fine for me.

I think the pedal spacing's 100% spot on.

At your height mate you gonna deffo need the seat as far back but that will be totally fine for you! the porblem comes when someone needs to sit behine you!

Just been for a couple of test drives, one in a FF172, the other in a 172 cup. Fitted in both fine, seat was as low and as far back as it could be but it was much comfier than my escort. Pedals were nice, didn't get to heel n toe while driving (not got the confidence yet!) but on the forecourt it felt as though it should be fine.

Of the two, the cup felt nicer to drive, mostly down to the suspension and the weight. As I drove the cup on my own (the dealer must have been trusting!) I booted it and it felt very quick (especially over 4/5k rpm), bit of torque steer but thats to be expected i guess. Lots of grip too.

Build quality was better than i was expecting, not like german stuff but easily good enough for me.

The FF was nice as well but i think it's going to have to be a Cup, i can change the cd's myself and drive with the window down in summer...
