Tasks on Clios are NEVER simple...

Finally got round to replacing my exhaust, as the exisiting one was rotten to the core.

Patience is also a virtue where Clio's are concerned. This is the extent of work needed to do the simple task of remove an exhaust:

(New exhaust fitted)

Everything got in the way....axle, bumper, wheels were removed to give the exhaust more space away from the axle....rear springs came off. The lot!

And this is the damage to the old one:

:S

I've only replaced with another standard 182 system as I see little point in putting an aftermarket on if I'm selling up. I'm keen to keep her pretty standard.

Incedentally, the old exhaust is use to NO-ONE....would it be worth taking it down to the scrap metal merchants?

I wouldn't know where to start to replace the system...so big thanks to mini-valver for his time and patience. :)

Well if you haven't done it before then you're not in a position to comment? ;)

In theory its only 3 fittings that hold the exhaust on. That was the simple part...removing the system from the car was the b**ch.

Trust me, we attempted to avoid it.

I never took my back bumper? just BORROWED kwik fits ramps and easily got under the car

Didn't think the bumper would have needed removing myself TBH. I should have taken pics in progress but the bumper for some silly reason was getting in the way...only a tiny bit. But enough to warrant taking it off.

I suppose every car is different, not every job goes smoothly. Trust me, we expected it to though.

bugger me, looks like dave had a busy day

luckily all my exhaust changes have been manageable without having to remove anything major

I am puzzled by the task it became...but when you think about it, its a bumper and a couple of wheels. A dozen bolts/nuts/screws if that?

Whatever it takes I say. Dave did a top job pretty much all on his own...:)

And thats just reminded me, good job wheels came off...I've got sodding flat spots

Its tight witht the bumper on, the job it is to remove, not worth the chance of scratching it!! You have to lower the beam t get the thing out, yank!

Lazy kev did good!!

See now the balance has returned, 172 owners have a mother of a job removing the cat & 182 owners have a b*****d time removing there exhaust, took me less than half hour to get my 172 sytem off, no bumper removal or any thing :approve:

Mine isn't still mint dude, it blows like a cheap ho...

I dunno if it's possible to weld up and sell on, but I can't imagine anyone wanting it TBQFH.

The standard system is one piece so you have to drp the axle and remove the bumper to get it off without cutting it. Being as a standard system was going back on, I couldnt just cut it as I'd have the same problem when re-fitting the new one. So for all the know it all's...

SOUTHPAW!

I got mine off by undoing the rear shocks to drop the rear axle and easing the exhaust out in one whole piece. The new owner had to take the exhaust away in one piece, they just dont like coming apart.

The 182 system is one peice from cat back. Only way to do it without cutting it is drop the axle, and take the bumper off. As I did it on axle stands I took the wheels off to get the extra drop on the axle....

  My trusty lil 182 :)
Glad you got it fitted gem, looks about the same process as i went through to get it off in the first place although i managed without dropping the beam :rasp: Looks much healthier than the old one tho :)

You're lucky you didn't crack/damage the bumper then. I didn't want to risk it TBQFH.

Like Dave said, twas the only way, and although I was bugger all help...its a lot less hassle than dealing with a cracked bumper.
