MY dad has just bought a new computer and wants to set it up.

He is on tesco broadband.

I will imagine he has no idea what his username and password are...

To set it up on the new computer i will most likely have to install all the tesco stuff again as he still has the same adsl modem from when he started with tesco like 3 years ago...

Lets hope he has the cd tbh.

My question is, is there on the control panel or internet options, some sort of optino that will allow me to see his log in name and then i can probe him so we can recall his password? Will it give me all the relevent info, so if worst case scenario i have to download the drivers for the modem i can still manually set it up? (or even better vsita on the new pc will be able to recognise the ancient adsl modem...)

I am awful at most things pc wise... let alone interent and connectinos... any help/advie would be great.

i imagine i'll probably have to speka to rtesco at somepoint no doubt...

ta :)

So its a tesco supplied modem?

Yes, there will be more than likely a home destination for it but usually they are blocked off.

Find the IP of the modem and bash it in your internet explorer!

If its just a crappy Speedtouch USB ADSL modem or similar. Download the program in the link below. Will show you the username and password of all Dial Up connections. While broadband is strictly dial up it uses the same method as a modem when using the USB ADSL modem so just try that fella

rasclart - you read my mind. it is indeed a crappy speedtouch usb.

i now have the username and password.

I guess all i will have to do now is locate the tesco cd and install as per normal.

i cna then go about (once back on line) remivng tesco program and get it to log on via windows. a lot easier imo.

reckon that sounds like a plan?

meh.. can't find the tesco install disk... going to give me problems i reckon :(

thinknig about it... i could just go to tesco and get a cd to replace it.

Most of the free crappy ones are Thomson Speedtouch 330.

Flip it over will say what model. Google the model number and it will link direct to thomsons site for drivers. They are not tesco specific dude. Whack in user/password and off ye go

flip me, that was simple! is this because of vista being very user friendly?

worked first time! (well not intirelly true... i missed out the 'dot' in the username so i kept getting it refused lol took me all of 30 seconds to realsie what i had done though.)
