Test drove a 200 today...

Had a run with a 200 on track last week. It looked incredibly stable and neutral. Ultimately he couldn't keep up, but his cornering speed was the same. Probably better in the hairpins. 182s move around a lot more.

What a massive bump... Loads has changed since then!

I ended up ordering a RB 200 Cup (due in December) and the 172 has been long gone... Sold it about a month ago lol

I think the allure of having a brand new car and warranty swayed my decision! :D

+ The allure of losing £k's when you trade it in.

I would of thought he's gone for the pcp deal? Depreciation is a fact of life. You can't end up with a nicer car without facing that fact.

As above! Richard1 sorted me out.
But tbf, I dont even think about depreciation when I buy a car. Whats the point, it'll just put you off doing it when you realise how much you're going to lose everytime.

True. I don't buy clothes, music, games, etc based on how much I can sell them for. And I'll bet they cost me more over 2-3yrs than any clio will depreciate!

That's life..

I keep looking at getting a new bus, to replace the 172 (Had it 5 years now) but it owes me nothing, and I still enjoy driving so I may as well keep it and stay debt free.
And you have a more sensible daily bus. I would of kept slagathor if I had a daily slut.

My thoughts exactley the 172 is all paid for, i know depreciation is a fact of life. If i were going to buy, There are 200's on Autotrader that are a year old and they've been traded in. The previous owner takes the hit and ive got a mint year old car with low miles. Winner.

Theres no such thing as taking a hit, its just called owning a car and thats part and parcel of it. Whats with this mentality? When you sell your car does the next owner buy it thinking "haha that mug took the hit for me and now i get his car"?

You own anything, it depreciates. Like Brown Bear said above you could apply the same thing to mobile phones, laptops etc.

True, but say you bought the car new, lets say a 200 for 14k, it would be worth about 11k trade in after a year. Yet if you bought one second hand a year old you could get it for 11.5 ish? Big saving,

No. Its just depreciation not saving. The same way you think your getting a bargin at 11.5k the next person that buys off you will feel the same way about your year or so of ownership as it will continue to depreciate :p

I cant believe people are still seriously not prefering the 197's/200's after driving them as i would ideally like to downgrade back to a 172/182 but after owning the 197 i think i would rather be carless on how they drive alone.

On a side note i went into Renault today after having my car serviced and very nearly come out with Gordini 47 that was in the showroom!

Used my brain in the end but but pictures dont do them justice. :hail:

Roffle at the depreciation Robots on this forum. Just spouting the same old guff when it comes to someone wanting to buy a brand new car.

It was cheaper to buy a brand new car than a used one at the time I ordered.

So stick that in your pipe!

172/182's feel prehistoric now imo. The driving position, the gear change and the brakes all feel very old. I understand that its an older car so its bound to.

This - by about £13 a month! brand new 200 or 197 with 30k on the clock. gtfo.

Exactly.

Dont get me wrong i had the 182 for 4 years and woud've happily continued with it even after driving the 200 but after buying a spec'd 197 and spending time with it there is a massive gulf between the mk2 and mk3 (bar the speed of course).

Great comparison phones, socks and boxers ect, so you bought your 200 for 14k say, in a years time you trade it in. I buy the same car for 11k. You've lost 3k, ive lost nothing. Thats a hit IMO.

LOL at the people that bite.

I drove a 200 at a RS day. I was impressed by the lower rev power, which you notice coming out of slow corners. And the brakes were awesome too...

.....BUT it just felt really big and lethargic compared to the 182. Yes living with it everyday would be much nicer, but as a drivers car, I preferred the 1*2.

You could apply the same thinking to a mobile. Clothes. Anything.

I personally wouldn't buy a new hot hatch with my own money. But I wouldn't buy a second hand car, which will most likely cost the same monthly, on finance. Personally I've no idea why anyone would tie up more than £5k ish of their own money on a car like these.

For day in, day out driving they aren't as good. But for a 'hoon', the 200 just doesn't reward/thrill/scare in the same way. It's too secure, too composed.
But then a 205gti makes a 182 feel a bit boring, as does a 306gti.

Yea but you're going to lose money when you sell on. Boom.

Why are people so bothered about the depreciation factor... It happens with everything you buy! Not an issue tbqh.

I agree with all of this, but I still feel better off behind the wheel of the Trophy, I feel conneced to the tyres, not like there is a middle man relaying my inputs.

I know what you mean about the 200 feeling lethargic over the 182 but I think it's what u get used to.

Ive just finished running the 200 in and it's starting to feel as fast as the 182 as well as all the other improvements it offers.
