Just wanted to pass on my thanks to everyone who contributes to this forum

Been contemplating the purchase of a new 172 or 182 and headed here to see what info I could glean from current owners (we own a VX220 too and get loads of info from their forum (vx220.org.uk))

Anyway, headed up to Motorpoint in Derby yesterday to put a deposit on a black 172 which Ill be picking up on March 2nd (that way I get an 04 plate, despite hubby suggesting putting a personal plate on... Cl1O MK)

Got a little worried last week when I was eyeing up the very same car driving in Midsummer Boulevard, Central Milton Keynes, only to see it pulled over by an unmarked police car for speeding :-(

Nevertheless, cant wait to get driving in it - anyone want to buy a Ford Ka?!

I went up to motorpoint the other day to ask about a 172 and was told you only get the 12mths warranty!!

I got 2 years warranty with the option of buying a 3rd from Motorpoint which I declined. Also had to pay for a Thatcham Cat 1 alarm which was not standard on the Euro spec (told I wouldnt get insurance if I didnt get it....)

All in, I handed over £11,660 for it. Im sure there are potentially cheaper sources (as I have found out on here) but I needed to balance the bargain factor with the security factor (i.e. being able to see the car and meet with a real person rather than dealing purely by phone/internet)

You will all get a 3 year warranty with your car whether it is an import or not.

Daipac, if it is sourced outside of the EU, it doesnt have a 3 year warrenty!

They source their STis from Malta!

Yeah I know that but she hasnt bought an STi ? All Clios bought from Motorpoint will be EU imports wont they ? So will have a 3 year warranty. Not heard anything to the contrary ?

the guy there told me you only get 12mths warranty and for extra cost you can have more!!

Big Iain, here is the letter from Renault regarding the 3 year warranty. As long as it is an EU import and it was registered after 17th October 2000 then it has 3 years warranty :

This was posted a while ago and when I bought my 172 recently which was registered in March 2002, I phoned up Renault who confirmed it had 3 year warranty after I have themy the VIN and VRM.

Would have liked to buy one from a dealer but couldnt track one down in the right colour, nearby and was happy not to have to do any haggling - price was all pretty clearcut at Motorpoint.

I was told the car is an import from Holland (so is EU) - how do I stand with the warranty - is it for 2 or 3 years? Does anyone have a definitive answer?

If its form Holland then, you have a 3 year warrenty, register it with Renault UK though!

No worries, it was somebody else who posted the letter ages ago but it has helped a lot of people out.

As Paul_CTR said, register it with Renault UK but your car should be on the system when it is registered by Motorpoint anyway, mine was.
