The day when renault let the side down badly **READ ME**

  e60 M5 -172- dciheid
Heres the situation. Badly worn shock absorber on rear, being replaced under warranty. Fine – as you would expect.
The steering wheel has split due to the sun (as reported by numerous owners) and Renault have dug there heals in stating that as its wear and tear in there eyes, im getting nowt. This developed to 50% contribution.

Also have badly worn drivers seat at the base, all bolly and matted – a total mess. Moaned about this to be hit with the same patter- wear and tear – who cares about it attitude. This has developed to a 50% contribution.

So my gripe is this, what the F is the point in a warranty when it doesn’t cover when fundamental flaws appear in the steering wheel (a common issue as noted on here) and they just don’t care.
Same for the seat, iv done nearly 36k and its like its done 136k. Total farce of a situation. To make it worse the steering part only (checked with 2 dealers) is £854.84 and Base Part of the seat material only is £350.00 (approx).

One dealer said it would be £300+ to install the parts, another has said £94.54. So basically if I want it ‘fixed’ its £650 iv to shell out. Whats that all about.

Just goes to show what little point there is in warranty for this ‘wear and tear’ excuse crap, which is obviously a get out clause. The items are defective – SIMPLE. Im sick to death of this ersey screw the customer attitude.

So anyone with the steering wheel complaint – phone Reno Services 0800 072 3372 – option 2 then 4, ask for Martin and give him your tales – and guid luck.

Im pissed off with Renaults dickhead approach here. Have a call out to whatcar helpline on it, hope they’ll take it up and if anyone wants to join me, give me your email address and ill add you to it as we try and tell Renault there out of order.

My other solution is get the goods from Renault spares or specialist Renault breakers, but as that involved ME paying money I think we’ll give that a miss as clearly Renault think its fine to take the piss with these matters.

Basically the final assessment from Renault to me is: -

“UP YOURS CHIC! THANKS BUT NO THANKS. I’D RATHER YOU SHOVED SAUSAGES UP MY ARSE AND STARVING DOGS DOWN MY THROAT THAN GET THE WARRANTY WORK ON YOUR CAR DONE .”

Great days. Makes you proud to be a Renault owner :approve:

Sale of Goods Act Fact Sheet
URN No: 05/1730

Subject: Sale of Goods Act, Faulty Goods.
Relevant or Related Legislation: Sale of Goods Act 1979. Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982. Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1994. The Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002.

Key Facts:

• Wherever goods are bought they must "conform to contract". This means they must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality (i.e. not inherently faulty at the time of sale).

• Goods are of satisfactory quality if they reach the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking into account the price and any description.

• Aspects of quality include fitness for purpose, freedom from minor defects, appearance and finish, durability and safety.

There is no way can they argue that a reasonable person would expect, and accept, that a leather steering wheel costing hundreds of pounds, will quite literally fall to pieces and need replacing every two years at great cost to the consumer.

I haven't spoken to my local dealer lately...but I think I might have to about my wheel...I love a good challenge.

  Turbos.
Nice find their Mark, i would ring up the b******s and read that out to them. Hopefully that will get the wind up them a little!

I'm currently penning a letter to the OFT regarding the steering wheel issue, however I really need pics, costs you've been quoted when the warranty claim has been rejected, rough transcripts from Renault UK and/or franchise dealerships etc.

Basically ANYTHING that may help, just PM me and I will add it in to my letter.

I'll have a word with my Dealer Chris and let you know. I'll also take some pics of the wheel in case you need anymore back-up.

I will do a group photoshoot on Saturday at Haynes :) "Damaged Clio's this way please!"

Wouldn't normally get worked up about such things but considering the cost of a replacement (with fitting) it seems a worthwhile exercise.

Chris, ill get pictures of mine off to you - PM me your email address. Also im issuing some details on this to whatcar and renault direct to attempt to resolve what is clearly a recurring fault.

This 50% lark is nonsense. Wheel shouldnt fail and has - wear and tear, rubbish.

This s**t sounds bad....hope you have some luck getting them to fork out 100% of the costs.

Thank f**k I don't have a warranty...like yourself, I'd be livid if this happened as it's why you buy the car brand new....seems like the warranty doesn't cover much fully.

Am I reading this right, is £854.84 the cost of the wheel only (not including fitting?)

That's insane, I thought it was around £300. I will go in and get a quote tomorrow from mine and see what price they come up with too!

And bump for people to PM me re: thumb grips or leather defect, any info is better than nothing.

Renault's pricing may actually be the reason they lose their case. If they quoted a couple hundred then they could argue that the part is made of lower quality materials, but charging almost a grand for it dictates that it should last the distance.

You reckon all us Ph1 owners can add our wheels in as well!?!

my wheel was done under warrenty after much hassle..they quoted me £340 fitted had i had to buy it...they told me mine was wear and tear also...at 24k i dont think so..good luck with your claim mate..

  Looking for a 1.8 16v

This Renault warranty lark really is a load of crap! I was informed by a main dealer that my car would not need it's 1st service until it reached 2 years old or 18k miles. I had asked what would happen if the car reached 2 years old but hadn't reached 18k, would it then need a service? I was told that if it hadn't reached 18k or there abouts the service would be pointless. So with this knowledge when my car reached 2 years old and had only done 9k, |I obviousky didn;t get it serviced, but however, 2 months later the hazard switch broke, so I called Renault and asked for it to be fixed under the warranty. I was then told, being as I hadn't got the car serviced when it reached 2 years old, my warranty had become void, hence I had to pay. I did argue the matter, but got nowhere and indeed ended up paying. It didn't cost that much but I was indeed annoyed as I had been told my car would not need a service at 9k. My car has had it's 1st service now, but has still only just done 14k. How daft is this warranty sh*t??

Is it not about time Renault made up their minds about this warranty and what it does indeed cover? As far as I can tell it does not cover you for much at all, even if you get your car serviced reguarly, as this darn 'wear and tear' sh*t comes into play.

I am so glad that 'so far' ~touches wood~ my car appears to be alright (for now) but if I indeed suffer anything like other Clio members (steering wheels problems etc) I will most definitely make sure they pay!! ;)

What is the matter with all these main dealers anyway? Are they stupid or something?THEY do not have to pay for replacing faulty parts, RENAULT UK pay. The main dealers get the money back from Renault , so what the f**k is their problem????

My valver wheel is still going strong! :rasp:

 @that.

It does appear that the 'newer' Renaults are made with inferior materials. This should be sorted out to the 'customers' satisfaction. Have they never heard of 'The customer is always right'? Do they not know what Good Customer Service' is? Good job we onw Renaults and not SHITroens, as they are even worse with 'warranty' issues and are seriously bad at 'customer service'.

Hmmm, Watchdog group buy! I would imagine they'd be interested in a mass compaint regarding one of the World's leading car manufacturers...

Renault seemed to do jack s**t about the dodgy plastic bonnet catches (with a production cost of 25 pence) when this was featured on watchdog 6 months ago, so I can't see them dishing out 850 quids worth of steering wheel willy nilly

That's the ticket! If they 'know' someone just isn't going to let them get away with it, chances are they will give you what you want. It appears you have to become a severe bully with Main Dealers these days, and showing them up infront of potentail customers is always an excellent idea too.;)

Good on you, and good luck! :)
