The Death Run

Took the b**ch out for a run to the tip this morning with some old boxes I needed to get rid of. The cars only got 350m on the clock, and I accidentally bounced of the limiter 3 times during the trip (safe overtaking, not speeding)

I mis-judged it because it already seems to be loosening up and seems to actually want to do it, a cold morning helped I guess. Been trying not to go over 6k too often and defo didnt want to be bouncing the limiter so often, so soon. Is my engine going to implode now?

  Embarrassed to say

Probably do it good. Even the m3 engines notorious for going bang, people recommend hitting the limiter when the engines warm a few times in the running period.

You have to give it some stick early on to bed it in.

Dont worry about canning it if the engines warm. The limiters there to protect the engine.

  GTiR 394bhp

Ive just started running in my rebuilt engine in my GTiR and will be doing a mixture of normal driving and giving it short bursts of acceleration. If you are too gentle the rings can glaze the bores and youll burn oil.

Similarly avoid dual carriageways/motorways as sitting at a constant speed(ie rpm)will do the same.If you must drive on them then keep changing gear to vary the revs.

I was going to run mine in for a few thousand miles but it actually feels very loose already(much quicker than before on less boost too) after only about 60!

it will probably be better for it, give it some stick from early on and there known to be quicker than one thats slowly run in

As said a couple of times ^ it wont do it any harm to do it a couple of times.

There is an arguement that says itll be quicker if you rag it from day one but it wont last as long.
