I've sort of done the same. I've ditched my stand alone ECU and loom and gone back to standard ECU and loom. OK so it's not idea but I just want to drive the car again. It's been 4+ years since i've driven it in anger and I need to concentrate on getting it useable rather than striving (and dare I say it, failing!) to get the perfect mk1 clio.

Big Boner, if you bought a standard Ph1, fitted a decent steering wheel, your recaros and the bodies, you'd have a wicked car that could be used daily or on track and you wouldn't need to have £10k tied up in it.

Sell all your other expensive/trick bits.

My car would be ideal for this with a strong engine running 421's, you could still work wonders on the car

Though im unsure if you could settle for a ph2, also the car was once owned by the someone where your car is, i think lol.

yeah it sort of was. Really easy to swap the bodies onto it as it's allready been done with great success quite recently

I can't believe how many times i have been in this position, perhaps that should tell me something. However i don't want to sell up, its just the rational/sensible side of me that is thinking/suggesting its a good idea.

Stu, i can vaguely remember what it is like to drive, pretty much the last time i drove it was the europe road trip, it pretty much come straight back and got stripped down. Its a great idea stu, and i have thought about buying a newer one and then just switching bits over but i honestly don't know if i would want another clio, a trophy interests me a little but i have owned clio's a long time now with the 1.4, a valver, the 172 and now the DCi too.... i think it would be potentially time for something else.

I am going to go along to the Bedford track evening (as i am so close) this week and try and get some passenger time, being around the cars, being at an event and chatting with others may help decide, probably can't come at a better time tbh. I also as of last night may have a potential space to store the car with no costs also, i won't be able to work on it but storage would be totally free.... its another consideration

Its been a while since i posted in here, thought i would briefly update it.

Since moving to MK things have been a little weird/tough which has meant work on the car wasn't really an option. However i still wasn't sure what to do with it so in the meantime the guys at BEANIESPORT were kind enough to let me store the car at there workshop for a small fee. Things are on the change again though now and i will potentially have chance to finally progress with the car again (if i would like). The use of a personal garage will be a big difference, i will be considering what i want to do, but this could potentially make things a lot easier again, at least on the bank balance. Prior to moving the car back home from a friends workshop a year back the car got to a stage where i felt i couldn't do much more, it needed a specialists work, someone who could weld (as it was evident i couldn't), so prior to it leaving BEANIESPORT or talked Beanie through the plans and we agreed a plan of action.

As the car was going to be running a heated windscreen all the heater gubbings were lost, this then left all the holes in the bulkhead/firewall, these all needed to be welded and sealed, along with the flat boot floor. A date was set for the car to be moved out of BEANIESPORT so the deadline was set for Beanie to do the work. This would get the shell to a presentable stage so if i did decide to break/sell the car the shell was at least in pretty good condition with a fully sealed bulkhead/firewall, seat rails welded in, a flat boot floor and cage points welded in...

this was then blown over quickly to check all was well, and the interior side was sealed and will be prept when the rest of the interior gets done....

Very happy with the results and the work that Beanie at BEANIESPORT has done. Has made a huge difference to me, if feels a lot less like a piece of scrap now with holes everywhere. So with this all good the car was then loaded onto a low loader and headed back to my garage.

its not to far from BEANIESPORT and the guys will still be having a large part to do with it. I now need to work up a good plan of action to keep the project moving forward, part of this will be prepping the shell for paint, but i am sure there is still lots of other jobs to do, until then though she is back tucked up in a garage stacked with boxes...

Wow! What a complete roller coaster. I've been reading this all over the Xmas period, a few pages at a time. I knew this car on the forum but never took the time to read it.

Infact I had the pic of it with the bonnet off on the IK tests as my screensaver. Loved that look and when it was on the Images too.

Its certainly been through the stages in emotions with you but good to see its still fighting to be a complete project, regardless of how long it'll take.

A lot of what made it what it was is still there, apart from the interior trimming really, but that is going to be finished to an equally high standard. It will go back together this year. Then you can love it again.

So the potential rebuild is potentially in motion,
The engine and airbox have been dropped off this morning at JC Weldfab (http://www.jcweldfab.co.uk/) to sort the few issues i had with the airbox and its mounting to the engine block, they will have it for approx a month and then i will have it back and push to get the rest of the car sorted.

So not been on here in a very very long time, just been so busy with work and play that not really had time or interest to post or even look at the site... that kind of reflects the nature of this project also though, nothings really happened at all...
until today when i received some pictures on some tweaks to the airbox

worked on by JC Weldfab (one of the fabricators made the original box) it is to brace the box to the block to elevate vibration, the backing/mounting plate has also been strengthened.
