I still love the looks of the 172 and in particular the Cup. Stunning, very noticeable colour.

I'd have one as a second car if I could :)

Williams 1 was actually a phase 1 Matt... I'm disappointed in you son! ;)

Mk2 Ph2 to be fair isn't a chav car and I dont think it will be... it's too damn girly and soft looking ;)

  BMW E46 330i Touring
I don't really care if a lot of young people can afford my car, I own one because I love the way it looks and the way it drives and IMO it's the best VFM fun car on the road.

The more chavs that ruin thew Renault Sports, the more appreciated a good example, well cared for one will become. Look at the valvers and williams, a decent example of those still fetches good money because so many have been ruined.

^^^Lol......Do we seem bovvered?

After all your the one who's paying just shy of 20k for a car (a similar one at that) because it has a better steering wheel!!! ;)

  clio 197 (racing blue)
i agree with seb on this one. long live the king.

Although i love the 172 and the 182 the 197 is on a totaly different level :D

and it looks nothing like any people carrier ive ever seen

Lol....Were not gonna lose your good self to some poncey Honda forum after you sell that little orange gem are we!?

I'm already active on Honda forums. I'm sure I'll stick around here though as there are so many chavs to keep amused ;)

I'm not sure if I will continue to be a member though. I probably will :)

Can't be arsed to read all this drivel although the posts by 'TheJesus' have brightened up my day.
In my view a hot hatch should be fast and cheap, the 197 is neither. The 182 fits into this camp and thats why it has done so well, the 197 however is far to expensive to be considered a hot hatch, therefore I would regard it more as a grown up tourer rather than a h/hatchback, it also also not fast enough.
The 197 owners can harp on all day about their cars being better than the 182 but at the end of the days the sales figures speak volumes. Its still French crap, its still tarnished with the Renaults reputation so nobody is going to pay the high prices. Secondly, they are not 197bhp, the gear box is shorter than a gnats erection to make the most of the engine to lug the extra weight around, this makes motorway cruising buzzy and gives s**t mpg (A 197 doing 80mph in top is doing more rpm than my 1.2 16v).
I really like the 197, but I would never pay more than £10k for a Renault.

Is it me or is the 1*2 looking really dated now? A local chav with a 172 parked it next to my 197 and the 172 really did look rather silly. i could hear the rattles from within my car ;)

seems its day is gone imo as the chavs have definitely got hold of it.

shame really :(

I dunno know, I still reckon a well looked after 182 cup looks better myself, but I'm sure the 197 will grow on me.....in time (needs to be lower though)

but as cars get older more are bought by chavs ( just witness the Scoobie/evo's:()..... ;)

^^^ this is the best bit of banter on the whole thread! f**king love it! lol :D totally disagree but i like :)

Far too expensive for a hot hatch? So the likes of the Megane 230, Astra VXR, Focus ST. Leon, Golf or CTR are not hot hatches?

They are still hot hatch's , but i think these are the next step up in class , on price alone!

Most of these are 20/22k dealer price car's , so it's 5k less for a 197, and 6k less than that for a mint low mile 182!

The choice is your's:)

You'll never ever leave CS lol

Only a matter of time before you get fed up with people asking questions about what pipe and induction kit to fit to their old Civic to make it sound more 'sporty' lol

That AlexS, what a sensible man!! Think this thread has reached the end of the road.

Im not sure about sensible but thats pretty much my take on the 182 vs 197 debate. I was partly winding Seb up though, I do like them I must admit, but if I was after a 'hot hatch' I would probably save my money and get a 182 as I wouldnt want something as grown up as the 197.
I wonder if they will put the dci 175 engine in the Clio III, that would be a great car.

I like how there is a common stereotype that chavs are poor in these threads.

Most chavs round here are loaded, They are all in well paid jobs, Mainly manual labour, Work a fair few hours, and All have very decent cars.

I regularly see 20ish year old chavs in E46 M3's, Evo's, Scoobies, TT's, S3's etc etc.

I think the fact if alot of these people who are probablygetting £400ish a week working as plasterers etc etc, are still living it at home, So they can afford to run/buy/insure good cars.

The thickest, Most annoying chav ever, from my school, Who is now 21, Got kicked out of school in year 11 and was put straight into a plastering course, Passed this and is now on 35-40k a year.

I love how the term chav gets stereotyped as poor.

I love it on here how anyone who is young and has a nice car is either put down as "using Daddies money" or " Has bought the car on finance etc etc.

The difference is property. An average 21 year old with an slightly above average wage could EASILY afford something special like ( I mean special, Not a renault), If he is living at home. I pay £150 a month rent to my mom and dad (Some prob get away with less or even More) Most people of that age in a full time job, Who haven't gone College or Uni pick up 7 or 8 times that after tax!! You could easily run a decent car on that wage.

It6s the lack of property that means chavs sometimes have good car, Not the fact they are on finance etc etc
