The letter about V6’s in autocar

  An orange one

:pwow, someone certainly has a pet hate for them, has anyone read it? ill copy it asap!

he does make one valid point though, they specced full beige taking the total to £32k and paid retail money for it, one year on, its worth approx £17k private, ouch! me thinks not a car to keep for one year!!

Cars lose money, some more than others, thats life.

If you are not bothered about depreciation then it doesnt matter.

The V6 is an oddity to own. Cost isnt something new owners are really bothered about.

not when they are rich no lol

My mums man was looking at a CL500 the other day (the one that clarkson has but not the AMG version?)

Theyre coming in at about £50k depreciation over a couple of years...

mk1 vees were about 27k new - now they can be had for around 13k !!
result ! not if you got one new though.

Mk1 vees were 26k otr when new, and yes you can get a decent example for around 13k now a days but, its a car thats four years old now, so to hold 50% of value from new over four years is sh*t hot, not many cars do that!

What about the FQ400 or the FQD400, f**king quick depreciation 400. 48 grand or something new only a few months ago it seems, worth about 30 now.

Yeah well said, just how I feel.

To be fair, if you bought a MK2 V6 at the right money, which Im pretty certain I did, then the residual hit isnt THAT bad. I deal on a daily basis with £50k cars and in a market like the one we are in now theyre the ones that feel the real pain. Besides, Im thinking to never sell my V6. I bought it as a toy and it can stay as one.

You dont pay £32k for a Clio V6 though. From work I can/could get thm for £22k basic spec. Even at worse youd pay £25k Id guess.
Still there not a car to buy for finacne most new cars depricate like that.
Imagine how much money scoobie drivers loose in one year.

You say basic spec, but as far as I know, you could only order the I.D. interiors for a very short space of time... When I bought mine in Dec. I was told that the interior packages had been stopped, or was that a load of bull?

The I.D. interior option had stopped long before Dec 2004. My interior was cancelled, but as I will be having new seats, it would have been a waste.

What seats are you going for James?? I am looking to replace mine either for a pair of Misanos like Mikes or for a pair of Recaros.
