im closer to manchester than warrington, just down the A580 ;)

Oh good, could do with some help, feel better now I know you won't have to travel too far ;)

On a more serious note, whereabouts down the A580? Near Leigh? I'll be picking up the Clio tomorrow so can be more than just an honourary member, will get down to a few meets once it's cleaned up. Might even do some orange highlights, appease some of the haters, lol.

iv been changing my 2nd colour on my car to green, at the moment iv got green wheels, dashstrips, front badge, but im not to sure if im brave enough to do the wing mirrors. u think it looks good when you see it in person?

the wing mirrors look really cool, I only wish he'd used fluorescent paint...

lol ;) im gona leave the wingmirrors on for now, finishing the acid decals on the wheels tommorow, and the 100 other things lol

Prefered it with the black diamond and normal mirrors. Silver/black cage would look mint.

Looking ace mate

Do you just put your new decals straight on the wheel and fire a coat of laqucuer over them or do you sand the laqcuer off first then decal then re-laqcuer?

Reason i ask is because i've got a new set of decals for my turinis and not sure whether to have a go myself or take them to a specialist and get them refurbed at the same time.

took the old decals off with a stanley blade, then sanded the laquer and black off, then gave the wheel another coat of black, apply the decal, then laquer the whole thing (well, clearcoat)

im in the middle of doing the decals at the moment, absolute nightmare!

Love the car mate. Not too keen on green front badge, would prefer it in black. but loving the work done inside and out. Very very interesting read.

Sorry i didn't reply to your text mate, i'm having a 'mare at work today! :(

Can i do your car and mine at yours tomorrow?

well today was a right f*cking disaster....

Basically, now ive changed to acid yellow, i needed acid yellow wheel decals etc.......but i spent all last week finding somewhere that had a similar color, nowhere did, so i got a guy to print+laminate me some vinyl. This ended up being wayy out color wise too, and was running out of time to get them done.

so yesterday, i had the vinyl cut anyway, but didnt weed the excess off the sheet, and didnt put a top layer on. I decided to weed out the sticker itself, leaving the excess, to make a stencil so to speak. I would then stick this to the wheel, mask everything else up, and spray acid yellow, to get an acid yellow decal obviously.......

so went ahead doing this.....

this worked, which was great, dead pleased...

they both came out fine.......so they just needed a clear coat on over the top, over the whole wheel, which ive done loads of times, without a problem....until today :(

the laquer seemed to react with the wheel, i had shaken it for 5 mins, and warmed it up in warm water, as always, but it dried like this, 'cracked' effect :(

IMG_0087.gif

this has never happened on the wheels before, it did once on one of my dash strips, but ive no idea why.......im gutted to say the least, and ive got 3 more wheels to do......FFS.

on a good note, inbetween all that fu*cking around, managed to fit the new drivers foglight, and tidy a few other bits up. Also spent most of the afternoon SRP'ing the car.....only just managed to finish it with the fu*kups on the wheels etc......so no EGP or Wax yet :(

It happens to me quite alot, normally when people have polished badges before hand. Only thing you can do is sand it down with 800 and hope it doesnt happen again! In my experience though once its happened, it generally keeps on happening until i pick the paint off and start from scratch :(

hope everything works out. decals look good though.

p.s. you need an acid yellow cliosport sticker now ;)

LOL

just had a thought, before i resprayed this wheel, i cleaned the wheel with water/megs gold class. but then dried, and sprayed it fully black......then dried overnight, then decals, then laquer......surely there cannot be anything left over from the megs?

the lacquer thing happened to me the other week when spraying door handles its f*cking annoying. do you know why it happened i put mine down to not letting the paint dry enough before putting the lacquer on even though i left them overnight. dont know now? always happens when your in a rush to do things!

a few coats of EGP if you've already used the SRP today?

leave each coat for about 45 mins, then buff it off and repeat

I'll bring some wax over later, i have a few to try... see how we get on and what looks best.

I might need to do mine too. ;)

yeah no worries can do it............il put some egp on..........i have some autoglym finishing cloths from i4detailing.......it says apply with one of those? that ok to do?
