The Megane R26 project

Looks a great car mate, will have to own one at some point. Was going to ask what you used to clean it. You rate the sonax stuff?

I've been detailing for a little bit now , think I have a box the size of my sofa full of waxes lol that Sonax is very impressive for protection and beading gloss is pretty good as well ! Looking forward to trying this Definitive wax Pro edition now !

Get one bought mate ! They aren't the most reliable they aren't the quickest but I tell you on that one sunny day with the window down and the car driving mint , they are amazing! Lol

Yeah I have a small selection of detailing stuff. More than happy with the art de shine stuff at the mo but allways interested in trying other stuff.

I've flirted with the idea of getting one a few times but the little clio puts a smile on my face and for what it owes me its a bargain really. Have you had to do much to keep yours on the road? I know they have their niggles but tbh nothing major really

Nothing massively major , tyres brakes cam belt shocker window reg just loads of little bits but they all add up, I was spoilt with my 182 really as nothing ever went wrong with that! To be fair I'm lucky I'm a mechanic so most of it is cost prices anyway !

Worth trying all products mate don't shut your doors , I use bits from everyone some I like from 1 company some I don't !

Yeah very handy being a mechanic lol, must be the reason it didn't put you off buying one, ha ha. I work in the trade which is pretty handy. Will follow yoye thread mate, hope the future plans go well

Yeah it helps loads makes things a lot cheaper and easier but still parts aren't cheap!

Nice one mate , it'll get there soon , cars coming along better once I get it to the level my 182 was I'll be happy ! Only downside is once I got the 182 mint , I sold it because I was bored hahaha

Have spent a little more time giving the meg some love , it's had another oil and filter just to keep update , I like to keep on top of them and make sure the history is update as best I can !

I I also put the gearbox oil in that's been sitting next to my toolbox since the dawn of time !

Titan sintofluid 75W 80 , recommended by opie oils

seams ms to have made the box feel a little better , still not amazing cold but a lot better once it's warmed up

Also after much debate I've finally bought some new front tyres ,

6AA23FE6-1577-4852-A1CC-26346C3DA1B0_zpsyrthmmhf.jpg

decided to stick with what I know , has these Hankook Ventus V12s on the clio, great tyres , wet grip rating of A so need throw these on and do the track rods and ends soon!

Been Attacking the megane again with more bits to fit lol !

I I now have a 2x new track rod ends and 2x track rods to go on along with the nylon bush for the rack so it should feel pretty damn tight when I'm done !

holding out replacing the tyres until track rods are some and I've set the tracking right!

Also after much moaning I'm finally sorting the keyless entry door handles , I managed to find a set of new handles , near side and offside and I'm in the process of refurbishing them , well that's a lie , they are already done but I only have the photos from half way through haha

Ive got new switches inside which I fitted , bit of a pig to solder in , but I've never been the best at soldering lol , I've checked them all over and there's continuity across the loom so they are only to go on, I've re sealed them up, and I've painted them in primer and the other week I went to fetch some paint , I've decided to paint them the same colour as the wheels and mirrors which was a stupid idea apparently because the colour is a ixcell paint colour I've no idea either lol but it's paint code 205-272
which in itself is a pig to get hold of , but after a trip to Santa pod to watch classic ford show I struck up a deal and collected some off a lad who had a can !

Ill get the photos soon, lovely colour and should look ace when they all match up , but here's the replacement switches in

F757E92A-EABC-4AF3-9A23-9247A49C8088_zps6u1dx3x5.jpg

And the handles in primer , ignore the button it wasn't in as I was sorting the switch it's been primed and painted with the handle now lol

398B832D-5967-4DF1-B66A-358ED7974888_zpsij9aw7lk.jpg

Also won a Hydro dipped Carbon effect badge for the rear on eBay , cost £7 lol so I thought I'd try it see how I feel

not sure if it's staying yet we shall see how I feel ! Lol

Ill get some photos of the handles soon and will try and finally chuck the rest of the bits at it !

Nice updates. I spend a month or two away from this forum and I'm quite happy with the 172. Then I come back and read this thread and waste the next 12 hours on pistonheads.

FML.

Love your car! Looks amazing. Just bought a megane myself. Just a 225 though, not an f1. Hoping the paint work looks as nice as yours when I've had it at the detailers on September 1st.

Well I've been very busy and lazy the couple of months !

had a slight issue with the handbrake on the megane which caused it to roll off down the road and into a pole !! Wasn't even slightly amused , it's scuffed the paint but the bumper is okay, Which is a good thing I suppose!

This did somewhat cause me to loose quite a bit of interest haha but after a few weeks of moping about I finally got busy , I looked at the car the next day to determine why the hand brake gave up , and traced it to the passenger side rear brake caliper , the handbrake arm was literally doing nothing , you pulled it and the wheel span free still, I did contemplate stripping the caliper but a phone call to Renault , and the Caliper was £70 , service exchange unit , so I had to send the old one back, but they come power coated red , so I didn't bother stripped as a rebuild kit would have been expensive and then I'd want to paint it again lol !

5E1097DC-F865-44EE-94F2-063150FF05AA_zpssio3eqih.jpg

new caliper on and I've got a mint handbrake and everything's working great, the foot pedal has improved as well, I'm thinking with the lever sticking it was causing a lack of fluid through the caliper !

That gave me a bit more interest , so next thing on my list was the Track rods finally , they've been needed doing its just been time so I ripped it all apart , I also had the nylon bush for the inner track rod on the passenger side , but that was like brand new still so I left that out , I replaced both NS and OS track rods and again even though it had a new track rod end on the NS last year, I did both the track rod ends again! I like to know everything is done right and correct so I replaced the lot , both side rods and ends

I got the car tracked up and it drives great, steering wheel is slightly down to the left but it's going back to have that sorted again!

All is looking and driving 100x better , while I was there I also did the couple of month regular strip and clean of the front discs and pads to make sure everything's going well! Loads left on both of the discs and pads still :)

Next on the list , the stupid bloody door handles , it seams as though the plastic coating is thin as p*ss, because you can see the black coming through where there's wear on the handles ! Also when the car was last paint corrected , someone got a little too close around the handle

oh well , they were ripped off and re painted in the colour of the mirrors and wheels , I have don't a set previously but when I stripped them down I found the handles have different plugs ! Doh

Some before and after lol

loads better !

Few rs other things I'll condense , friend of mine was trading in his R26 so I got offered some bits , he is a Ktec induction kit which I've robbed and fitted will get some photos

Also has some LED front fog lamps as mine have started with some water ingress , so may aswell upgrade haha

I also robbed his wind deflectors as I've wanted a set for a while haha

A local lad has also been out and tinted the back 3 windows in dark smoke for me last week , he's done a decent job and I'm happy looks loads better really glad I had it done !

Heres more photos lol

so yeah, that's how far I've gotten , just also order a R26R Clutch lol so need get the flywheel and we are nearly there ! Wooo

Well the megane has been a little naughty this last week

The first time in two years , it's let me down ! Luckily it was only the battery haha, I started it in the morning and thought it started turning over a little slow, so I priced up a battery and by the day's end it was completely dead , managed to jump the car and get it over to work, took a company car home , and then got the battery the next day, to be fair to it , the battery was still the original 8 year old one, so it doesn't really owe me a thing haha!

New excide one came, laughing as the parts supplier said he wouldn't bother pricing a cheap one because he knows what I'm like , I want quality not cheap lol , so £48 later it came 3 years warranty too

Also gave me chance to show of the new Ktec Air filter kit , unfortunately not all the fixings came with it but managed to get it on without cutting the pipe etc so if I ever need to change back I can

E5715A10-EA62-4F0C-A96F-310D1DAF0883_zpsrwnr02ri.jpg

Very impressed with the filter, it's definitely got a deeper induction roar at low revs, but it's not as noisey as the Ram air before , it's still noticeable , but not as in your face
Maybe a placebo effect but it does feel stronger through the Rev range as well! Monitoring on Scan gauge I'd say there wasn't a massive difference on inlet temps maybe a degree at the most but every little helps !

Having spoken to Andy Bond he's doing a Group buy on the TTV single mass flywheels for the R26R clutch , so my names down on that list just waiting for more people to add on so I can finally get it all sorted and ready to be mapped !

Also one thing I has noticed is since I had the rear windows tinted it has made it a lot harder to reverse the car , which was already very hard , it's not easy to park the car as the bumper sits out so far you can never tell how close you are to anything !

So I'd been thinking for a while about doing it , so I managed to get a set of rear park sensors, and me and the lad from work set about fitting them! Got some GNA spray paint from local factors and painted them up, chucked them on today, they work a treat , made it a lot easier to park the car and I don't think they look too far out of place !

I'll get some more when it's been washed as it looks a right state hand marks everywhere lol!

It's getting there !

Not looked through the whole thread mate but looks cracking work on this page.

I've got a black samco pipe to replace the wee one on top of the engine, I kept it for the Laguna, saw it didn't fit and forgot about it! If you fancy it I'll take a pic and do it for a tenner posted.

Cars running great !

Also had a strut bar made for me by a good mate , great bit of kit !

I ended up buying a Megane mate, a trophy. Loving the car at the mo.

So far I've done the back box chop which sounds good. Not too loud.

Fitted a forge recirc valve which was an absolute arse.

Fitted a diy itg style induction kit which sounds pretty good at low revs. How do you find the ktec on the move, loud? Only ask as I don't find mine loud atall really. Not sure what I was expecting.

Definatly feels like it picks up better though. Yours looks great, some nice touches. Has it been mapped?

Ooooh nice mate glad your enjoying it! Some very good mods there!

I don't think the Ktec is as loud as the ram air , but I was driving up the street the other day and my mate said all he could hear was the filter sucking in lol so must be fairly loud lol

Not been mapped yet , waiting for the clutch and flywheel to be sorted then off to mapping

I've adjusted the filter but it's still not that loud. The offset is the car goes well so will probably leave it be. Who's doing the clutch? And who's mapping the car

Maybe its positioning Mate, not sure on who's doing it all, I want to get the box rebuild while I'm at it , I have bought a good 225 box so I was going swap the diff and do the clutch myself , or I may take it brosport or mark black !

I want mark do it , but it's turn around time and the drive ATM so not sure !

Mapping will be RS tuning though !

Good stuff mate, plans sound good. I think the issue maybe the filter so have bought another to try. Will figure it out. Goes really well tbh, and to steal an old saying 'seems to breathe better'. Does tbh. Good luck with the plans

Cheers bud ! Hopefully I'll keep it all posted , just need sort the Flywheel and I'll be happy waiting for one more person on the group but for the Flywheels or clutch and flywheel then we're on haha

Welllll once again I'm hording bits for the megane Hahaha

although one special delivery of pure engineering pornography has landed

My TTV Single mass R26R Clutch conversion flywheel :) just need decide if I'm stripping the box or letting someone else !!

Then it's finally in for mapping !

also bought a new set of rear exhaust mounts, and a NSF lower arm because the bush is starting to split slightly ! Can't wait to get this done now !!

Spent a bit more time and money on the old girl these last couple of weeks !

Cars all booked into have the Clutch Flywheel and the Gearbox is eating stripped cleaned , syncros bearings the lot !

Goes in on the 3rd & 4th of December !

Also bought a new upper swing mount as there been a little creaking from it

Fitted some 5mm spacers on the front finally just to make it all look even

A293C2A4-8E3E-4842-93B1-EEF4F56A66A0_zps7hkhsch3.jpg

Finally fitted the LED Front fog lights I've had about for a while

And while I was there I got a photo of the numberplate lamps haha

And while I was at it and the box is coming out I thought I may aswell

122A5220-5D69-472F-B88C-155DC887E396_zpsqoungzol.png

I've bought some Red heat wrap to wrap the decat before fitting

Once it's all done , it'll go for mapping in the new year ! Wooooo

Well I've been very very lazy updating here !

Meg has had some loving as per usual , had a new poly bushed rear swing mount insert to stop the knocking on the decat ! That seams to have cured the noise , which is a winner

CCDD8E7E-3663-4A3F-BEE2-E37EF5B3CA72_zpshy8y86jr.jpg

Helped no end with the rocking of engine !

Also so had a slight noise on pull off which I just put down to being a characteristic of the vehicle , however as a matter of course I was replacing the engine mounts on the car and it turns out it was the top swing mount !

281862F6-1FF0-4965-B9B6-B13BADAA1FF7_zpsk6ao6vxp.jpg

all looks good and okay the car drives 10x better than before

Decided to be a rebel and finally get the car booked into RStuning for a map , had a good chat with Paul over the phone , really nice and helpful bloke , advised me to remove the intercooler I had fitted, as it would restrict my power with my mods , and luckily I had a friend selling a damaged Forge intercooler , purchased that, sent it up to another mate who is an amazing alloy welder , couple of days later it was back and fitted , the thing is huge haha

FD2077B9-6DE1-4E96-A5CB-82DB56BDEEBF_zpsrjvmw5jk.jpg

thats a comparison to my old Diranza intercooler which was slightly bigger than standard haha

9E775173-68E3-4AA6-81C6-5E64279F355D_zpsgzprdpjn.jpg

on fitted and road tested all seamed great, also had some left over heat resistant paint from the decat and wrap so decided to paint the centre section , keeps the heat in and gives a fair few pops and burbles and the odd flame now

Then a trip to Leeds to see Paul !

E3099F0E-74A6-4C57-B691-6EC9F0306B58_zpselcp7j1w.jpg

Made a really good base figure of 244bhp ,

Set of 630cc injectors that were flow matched fitted and a map on , car made 282bhp and a good capped 300ft of torque

7AE3712B-F0D5-4A84-A9A5-1CA5E9BDFAC5_zpsbosdbmn2.jpg

Cant say how much difference there has been it's like an animal , pulls so hard so much better , genuinely over the moon with the car !

Also gave them both a bath

Really happy with the megane now , going to get the bumpers repainted , and I've got a set of new bumper decals front and rear to go on , then I'll hopefully be done haha

And I can start enjoying it and plying with the Clio , until something else comes up with the megane I want haha

Awesome mate the updates you did made it so worth while and then get the map after you have done the right mods. Bet your very happy those numbers are brillaint.
Knew the intercooler you had wasnt the right size.
Forge one is great.
You had r26r clutch done aswell so no worries there.
Absolute beast now mate enjoy hehe

Cheers mate ! It's really starting to get there haha, I knew the intercooler would hold it up slightly but when I bought it, 270bhp was plenty haha got a little carried away in the end !

Yeah I'm hoping it's all sorted now, I've got all the mods before hand to cope with the power, only thing I think it may need is a big brake kit , but I'll see haha
