THE hottest Fiesta really isnt hot enough to cut the mustard. Save your insurance money and go for the warm one. Neither is brilliant but the Zetec-S has a friendly willingness to it and you can save a packet.

NO competition. In this piece of sibling rivalry, big bro wins hands down, even though we dont yet know the full story as the VXR doesnt get here until June. With 240bhp, it may give even the Golf GTi a run for its money.

THE GT does all the right things - its over two grand cheaper, four insurance groups lower and only just over 1.5 seconds slower to 60mph. But its in the shadow of a legend. Youll spend the rest of your life explaining why you didnt get the GTi.

TRICKY! By going for warm rather than hot you save £1,500, but then the warm one is well down on power and still in the same insurance group. My advice? Go for the hot GTi 180.

THE C2 replaced the hot Saxo, the car largely responsible for the current reinvention of the hot hatch, so its got pedigree. With just two insurance groups in it and eight hundred quid extra to pay, go for the VTS.

NEITHER is what you would call warm. The Renaultsport 255 is hugely expensive, amazingly glamorous, incredibly exclusive and, for most mortals, impossible to insure. Go for the 2.0 16V.
