The most annoying sound ever.

  CLIO172, BMW3, 3061.
I have exactly the same noise emdos, so will be watching this thread...

ahhh @ last someone who hears it too!!! that vibrate sound is defo coming from near my wheel arch so its probably the bearing making both droning and the intermittent vibrate but i still can't understand how a bearing can make such a loud vibrate & be intermittent !

Reckon standard zorst is loud enough! Thats whats on mine and it gets fairly raucous if its given full throttle. I've had modded systems on my cinq abarth and tbh they can be obtrusive. The janspeed is ok though. I've used them on several cars and they are relatively unobtrusive.

Ok update on this.

Yeah i do need a new wheel bearing on the back left wheel thats coming this week. I've just fixed my exhaust system on the 172 and all the brackets are secure so no vibrate from them.

back to the wheel bearing tho, it makes a loud droning sound which i know is usual, but lil_clio_boi you say it will also make a virbrating/rattling noise noise. is that right? does a wheel bearing make both noises? I want to stress that this vibrate is intermittent. every minute or so.

it sounds like its on the inside !!!

many thanks
Funny that. I've had to have a new wheel bearing fitted on rear left last week. Its the second one since september on the same hub. It was making a helluva droning noise for weeks. I thought it was the Michelin Pilot tyres but replaced them and noise was still there so it had to be bearings. At least the second one was warranty claim. Rear hub set for the 172 is damn expensive! You have to buy the complete hub if you want new discs. Its virtually impossible to get the old bearing out of the hub if its been in for any length of time as its such a tight interference fit.
Its nice and quiet now though!

My rear passenger bearing is also fvcked so could well be something to do with that. Will let you know as soon as I get it changed
