The New Phone Thread

I'm keeping an eye on the pixel 5.
It won't be flagship in terms of spec but generally they aren't, it's the software which makes them.

They have sacked off the Tele lens and put in a wide angle again. Fingerprint on the rear where it should be.

I'm in a 12 month SIM contract so I might look at getting it on SIM only price depending.

What other flagship phones are good at the moment then? I'm wanting to sack off this S20 ultra (something i've never done a few months into a phone contract)

Are there any flagships with a finger print scanner on the back?

I got some trivial comments the other day when posting in the S20 group on facebook. So many people were telling me its the user and not the camera however I had the phone on auto mode and it managed to take this photo. I have had flagship phones since the start of Uni (2009) so I am well versed in how they should or should not take a photo lol

It's a shame as some pictures, generally, can be relatively decent but the lack of consistency is something that is a major gripe especially when you potentially have one moment to take it. Having to understand and accept that the photo may be blurry 70% of the time is something that is quite frankly embarrassing.

I always end up on a bit of a rant but as a Yorkshire man I love to get my monies worth out of everything.

Low and behold, the blurry cow

At least that bit of grass at the front is in focus mate!

I have the exact same thing with my P20 pro. Weird thing is, my Mrs has the exact same phone, and her pictures seem loads better than mine 🤔

That looks good. Fingerprint on the rear as you say 😍

My pictures on my old s8 always seemed better than the Mrs S10....🤔
Really? The pictures my S10 takes always amaze me, even if you point it straight at the sun

The AODNOTIFY app works ok, well it has done so far, it's £2.96 for the upgraded version which allows more customisation, so if it doesn't eat battery, i might just upgrade in a couple of weeks.

Bit miffed by this to be honest.

I've always had Nexus / Pixel phones as I really like the plain Google android implementation but it now looks like they're just abandoning the high-end as the 5 will have worse specs than the older 4 XL.

I hadn't planned on switching this year anyway but if they stick to the mid-range, next year's 6 (XL) probably won't be much of an upgrade either.

I'm hoping they bring out a premium 5 but I can't see it.
I'm the same as you, have had pixels for years. Still rocking the 2xl but it's getting on a bit now. Might just refresh a battery and see how that goes. Tried a Note 8. Sold it under a month later, just didn't get on with Samsung's UI no matter how much messing I done with it.

I'd seen they are still using the same sensor as the 2 in the 3&4 which is a shame, thought they would have upped that a bit more but I suppose with their software it's not needed as much.

I'll see what's out in 6 months or so I think, it not, I'll carry on with this SIM only deal.

Lad next door was showing off his galaxy s20 ultra pro max or whatever it is. Nice looking phone. He said its 1300 to buy. He pays 50 a month, for 3 years!!

I'm paying £50 for my OnePlus 6T. I can upgrade from November with no fee though, was gonna do it now and just sell this to pay for difference but since it fell off something at work and smashed the back it's worthless now I think, plus the slider is a bit dodgy now can't go on silent mode. Won't be worth over £100 now will it

I am a bit fed up of paying so much a month but at same time I want a newer phone haha.
Love the look of the note 20 range in bronze, but then price is a big thing in that. I don't need 50gb of internet like I have now anything over 15 would easily do , tbh similar spec as in memory and that would probably do too

Slider is normally fluff caught in the opening, have a go with a toothpick.

Still worth putting on eBay.

Had my mate 20 Pro 2 years now. Its been great till this last month where the battery isn't great and it crashes sometimes. Also somehow managed to smash the rear glass.
Unsure what to get next.
Note 20 ultra is a big contender. I've had a note before and loved it.
But I'm really contemplating an iPhone. Either 11 pro max or wait for the new 12.
Ive always had android and feel whenever I get a new phone nothing much really changes so fancy changing.
Opinions?

It's £56 for a helmet purple OP6T back replacement if that restores it's value to something you're happy with?

I sent mine off and smashed it back up two days later!

So I can get this for £39 a month/ £0 upfront, after claiming cashback by simply sending copies of my bill every month?
Otherwise it's £47 without cashback? I've never done cashback things so no idea how it works lol

I purchased my iPhone outright, and pay £7 a month for the sim, and as I use wifi nearly all the time, I do not need data.

I'm just looking at that because it's a cheaper price monthly/ no upfront AND double the data, if I could get it to 20gb or so for 33 or something would be better but they don't do that lol

So what do we reckon I'd get for my 6T? Prices are allover for non damaged ones lol. Everything works fine apart from the slider, and then the obvious damage at the back. It all runs fine etc

My s20 is meh, so picked up a second hand LG v50 dual screen today. Few years old now but they haven't released the v60 in the UK 😔

Really really impressed with the whole dual screen thing

Pixel 4A ordered this morning as a replacement for my aging Pixel 2XL.

Genuine excitement, far more than I should be really! Long wait though, won't see it until 2nd October.
Nice choice! Good phone, needs a dbrand skin.

I've now seen a fold 1 and hoping to see the new one in the coming weeks.

The fold 1 was a few weeks ago and I couldn't believe how cool it was in person. Completely changed my mind on the phone. I'm a big phone user, productivity, business, it's a major tool in my life now and the fold was very very cool. Of course first gen has all the flaws but the gen 2 looks insane.

I just don't think I'm ready for the softness of the screen as an everyday phone. My glass on the note10+ is immaculate after a year and a bit and that includes a few incidents.

I think however, once I hold the 2, I will lust after it!

I run an FB business so spend my life on my phone, I've been gagging for a better option than a small phone screen for ages.

Not interested in the fold 1 as the 2 is about to come out. Loving the look of the Microsoft duo, but not going to be released in the UK just yet. The LG v60 has nothing but amazing reviews, but again not released in the UK and unlikely to ever be.

The fold 2 ticks all the boxes other than the price.

Since getting the LG v50 with dual screen yesterday, don't think I could ever go back to single screen. For what I do/need it's perfect, f**king loving it at the moment.

I can only imagine how much better my productivity would be on wide-screen or dual screen. I use a surface pro 7 which gives me that larger option with portability, but my note10+ is used constantly and large enough screen for multi-tasking.

Oh and 7 hours of screen on time yesterday with moderate to heavy Battery champ!

Being able to have fb or messenger open on one screen with PayPal on the other, creating an invoice is amazing. No more flicking back and forth to get all the details I need.

My Mam has a EE contract and has the iPhone 5 £25 a month something like 1GB of data. She had a notification that she can upgrade early. She doesn't want to pay nothing more than £25. She's been asking for more data too. Is it just worth keeping the phone and just get SIM only as they do £20 for 100GB.

Or could you haggle insotre for something like iPhone 7 or 8 also a much higher data for £25, I've never haggled on price on mobile contract, is it something you can do?

If she is going sim only, Smarty do 30gb for £10 a month and it's a rolling contract, so you can end anytime, i doubt she will use anywhere near 30gb

That's exactly what I've got for my kids. I've put them together in a family and friends group which means it's £18 a month for both.
