The perfect fast road set up for a clio 1*2??

So if you had a clio 1*2 and a budget of 6k to spend on it, what would you spend it on to get the perfect fast road set up but still use it as a daily practical* car??

Please no stupid answers like a new car.

I'd change the steering wheel and seats, leave rest standard.

Phase 1 172 for 1.5k.
Coilovers, Decent Brakes & pads, steering refurb, arb,Decent tyres - all in for 3k ish-
As above for a P2 172- All in for 3.5 ISH
As above for a p2 182- All in for 4.5k ISH

OR trophy for 4.5 k
Mark fish suspension set up, Arb & a few other bits 5k. DONE-

Still have money to spare for possible engine upgrades.

Perfect? Trophy with original Sachs fronts, Sportlines and Koni adjustable rear dampers. Add a Whiteline rear ARB if you wish.

Combine with 15" wheels for ultimate win (and monster truck stance).

I'd buy a ph1 172 fit brand new 172 cup shocks and Eibach sportline springs & camber bolts and renew every suspension and steering component then probably fire some cams in it.

To be fair, a new car isn't a stupid idea. £6k + the sale price of your 182 gives you a lot of choice.

If you have your heart set on spending some money on it though, I'd personally do the below -

Ensure you have some decent tyres. I really rate the Pirelli P-Zeros, but looking to try AD08's next.

Refresh the suspension components (new dampers/shocks, springs, track rods, ball joints, bushes, etc.).

Upgrade the front brakes to Brembo HC discs and DS2500's pads (even OEM pads are sufficient for road use though). Braided lines are worth getting also. Leave the rears as they are/replace for standard if required.

A yanoo stiff shift kit, Powerflex dogbone mount and fluid change should see a nice improvement to the gear change.

Recaro Trendlines (from a Trophy/R26 etc.), really good seats- supportive yet retain practicality. New steering wheel to replace the bus-like standard one.

Just a few ideas for you. There's an endless amount of things you can do with these cars.....

Just buy a Trophy, then fit Sportlines, camber bolts, Whiteline Arb and CL5+ Front pads. You dont need anything else.

For me:
ds2500 pads
Cooksport springs and new cup dampers (Sachs are marginally better but loads more initial cost plus rebuilds)
trendlines
all new bushes and joints and mounts
rs2 manifold with retimed cams
stealth or other similar (piper for example) quiet exhaust

If the budget runs out lose the rs2, its nice to have but the spend is big for a small gain.

If the budget stretches a little add arp and super tech valves for a few more rpm but not really needed for road.

Thats is the spec our RB will be next year hopefully.
​got all the parts to do it but some are in use on our other clios for a bit first.

Yes I have.
They are a good shock but the cup ones aren't bad either. Its not night and day different on a road car like this thread is for but the Sachs would be my preference given sufficient budget.

m1155 = noisey at town speeds when braking gently, significant increase in disk wear rate
coilovers = require more maintenance and less comfy in most cases

all good stuff on a trackday car but sod all that on a road car I reckon, lol, would be a boring world if we were all the same though

All I want now is a small momo wheel and whiteline arb and some more poly bush goodies.

Utterly no point with the expense and hassle of fitting a ported head if you put a normal inlet back on. Only really worth it with cams and bodies.

have a CUP so no AC,CC so that makes no difference at all to me
have 1155's fitted at the moment and don't find them too bad for noise or heavy wear on a decent set of dics, hence not using brembo as i found they were crap for wear on standard pads
rather have the coils so it's more adjustable come a trackday as you're stuck with cup/standard shock and eibach/cooksport's otherwise

Why didn't you get powerflex bushes?

because Renault spend a considerable amount developing the bushes for the car, and when new the cars drive brilliantly so that's how I wanted it to drive

Full suspension refresh including wishbones (OEM bushes), ARB Bushes, inner and outer trackrods, top mounts etc. etc.
Quaife.
DS2500s all round.
15" wheels (Turini or 2118 IMO) wrapped in AD08s.

I make that ~£3k spent if you do all the work but fitting the diff yourself.

I'd find it hard to spend any more on the car, but if the budget absolutely had to be £6k I'd probably throw ITBs in as well.

Im looking to do a full suspension refresh in the near future, is it worth fitting polybushes on a fast road car that may occasionally go on track or would the oem bushes be good enough?
