After the disaster I experienced over winter where my front suspension disassembled itself, it's now been fitted with a good second-hand set of Bilstein B14's with K-TEC top mounts.

Took it for its MOT yesterday and it passed with no bother, aside from some minor defects for the headlights. They are looking a bit tired now, but I've got a better looking set to go in when I find the time so that'll be easily sorted. I can't get enough of this car, I've owned it since September 2020 and can't really ever see myself selling it. Since I bought its barely put a foot wrong, is tons of fun to drive and it still keeps pace with modern hot hatches. There's are areas on it I can improve, but that's mainly the little cosmetic things that don't affect it massively. Here's to another year of no problems (hopefully)!

I've already posted this on the Cliosport Facebook page but thought it would be worth posting here too.

Finally got around to installing some better condition headlights for the Phase1 last weekend. What a difference its made, makes the car look so much fresher. Wish I'd done it earlier!

Looks smart. Are they new ones? If so what make are they? I need some for mine in the future.

I'm a tad blind though so it's a 5 footer in my eyes! ;) And as long as it drives spot on you needn't stress it.

It's the same for my Ph1 tbf, looks great in photos but up close in person it needs a fair bit of work. And weirdly enough the aircon in my car doesn't work either. All the pipes & switches are there, but if I press the AC button I get nothing. It's probably due to the dashboard in mine being switched to a Ph2...

In HOU the aircon button was a bit weird, because the ph2 button is a latching one and the ph1 uses a momentary switch. In short the car expects to see the circuit ‘made’ for a brief moment whilst you have your finger on the button to turn it on/off.

Because a ph2 button latches you have to press it twice (light on, light off) to effectively do the same thing. You can have the light on the button but the aircon off, which can be confusing. Could be useful info for you?

That's probably got something to do with what's going on for sure.

I've noticed the aircon light will only come on if the recirc is also on. I've probably tried every combination of pushing buttons and setting fan speeds/temps and nothing seems to make a difference. I've had both lights on and the compressor still won't kick in! Ideally I need to pull the temperature panel out and look into the wires/switches, but I've put it off as anything to do with wiring makes my brain shut down...

Second time I've posted my Clio on here, it looked much better last time.

I posted this on one of the Clio sport Facebook forums a while back, but now i am back on cliosport.net i thought I'd share my theory. And bare with me.

Is anyone particularly knowledgeable about the first registered ph1 in England?

My Clio is W748WTR, first registered 24th March 2000, It's already pretty rare to see any on a W plate so I did a little bit of digging to see if it was one of the oldest. I quickly noticed that a lot of the press material showed vehicles with W7**WTR

So i dug a little deeper, and *TR means that they were first registered in Portsmouth, a large port city. Given that registered vehicles count up the numbers consecutively until 999 before increasing the first letter of the suffix by 1 (leaving the last two to dictate place of register) i cycled up and down the numbers until i stopped finding silver Clios:

My theory is, that these vehicles (including mine) could be part of the first batch that came over from France and registered as soon as they landed to be used as marketing material before eventually being sold. Which is quite fun i guess!

All other W plates that don't follow this convention (different registration location) seem to be registered later in 2000.

I know who has that press car. He is active a bit on Facebook etc, not sure if he is on Cliosport.

When I had the cam belt done in mine the garage (ex Renault dealer) said mine was an early one. I got it with the plate W601XGP but they found out it was actually registered as W1END. He said it was registered really early too, sure he said March. He was surprised how early it was registered as they hadn’t been released or something at that point.

Weren't a lot of them registered on the south coast?

A lot of 172 Cups (my old one included) have plates that start with "HT", which is also Portsmouth area.

I'm sure someone said at one point that a lot were registered there, rather than by dealers.

There was a flame red one that recently sold on CC. Thought this may be it as it looks similar from what I can see in your photo.
I was watching that one :) I didn't think it went for a lot of money, considering it looked in pretty good condition from the pics
