pretty much and hes got all my old games from 2000-2008 ish as ive not pc gamed in ages, just wanted to build something cheap that I could probably sell on and make a bit of cash in the future towards his next machine!

So, I see the embargo on reviews / benchmarks for the AMD R9 RX 480 has been lifted... who's getting one?
Seemingly nobody if you look on OCUK. Not exactly the last word in power efficiency, don't clock well and only just about matches up to the 970
It's cheap, so there's that

RX 480 4GB is sub 200 and performs on par (it's a few fps less at most) with a 970. I think that's pretty good for the price tbh.
Makes a lot of sense for the average 1080p gamer. And 1440p for that matter

Sticking with AMD, I can't believe how much money these have haemorrhaged - for a £1,300+ card from 2014. Just a shame you need your own Sellafield to power the bloody thing...

The GeForce Experience update is coming... forcing you to create an Experience account with nVidia or link it to your Google account. If you don't use it you can still directly download drivers from the nVidia site but you won't be able to use the streaming services, ShadowPlay, etc. that the GeForce Experience affords the user.

I really like ShadowPlay - one of the best recording software utilities I've used. Negligible performance hit whilst recording and the quality is top-notch (although obviously depends on recording quality settings).
In other news, rumours are spreading of an announcement from nVidia about the nVidia Titan P(ascal) at this August's Gamescom in Germany. It's to be taken with a pinch of salt but the rumour is of two versions, a 12GB and 16GB variant - with 3- and 4-HBM2 stack memory respectively and rated at over 10 teraflops for 32-bit crunching (over 5 teraflops at 64-bit, over 20 teraflops at 16-bit). I'm not sure it will happen (seems a bit early to be making such an announcement) but you never know.
Still with nVidia, the leaked benchmarks for the 1060 look reasonably good. If priced well it could seriously affect AMD's sales of their new 480. There's still debate as to whether or not the 1060 will offer SLI (it's looking unlikely due to the lack of an SLI connection bridge) unless they have decided to go over the PCI-e bus instead as AMD do. I expect t his won't be the case as that's one heck of a change for a 'lower-end' graphics card (I use the term lightly). I guess it all depends on price and availability...

You should try OBS too (it's free). Many more options so you don't need other programs and I have to say I've not noticed performance hit on it either. FRAPs on the other hand is quite resource hungry, not to mention storage.

I think it may happen, but be a paper launch. Does seem a bit soon. It's not like they need to rush to market with it lol.
6900K ticking along nicely. Finally found a set of Tridents with Samsung B-Die. Can run most of secondary timings fairly close to the chipset rules at 3400Mhz, which is pretty impressive in quad channel

Yep, camera overlay, seperate audio inputs for your game and microphone, web/chat/other application overlays. All good stuff and you can save profiles for different setups easily. It's just much nicer to use than Shadowplay IMO.

It's not related to the PCI-e over-current issue with the 480's is it? It's rare but a fair few users have experienced similar issues and a driver fix should sort it out. Of course, it's entirely possible you were just unlucky. I bought a brand new GTX 980Ti that was funked and had to be RMA'd.

AMD just issued a small statement on the PCI-Express over-current Issues mentioned and reported on the web. It seems that the Radeon RX 480 reference cards are going over spec using more than 75 Watts over the PCI-Express slot and then another 75 Watt over the 6-pin power connector.
If you pull over 75 Watts from the motherboard slot, it will place more strain on it and some motherboards might note cope with that very well. To that end and to solve the issues reported they will address this issue in software. The cards do exceed 150 Watts, in fact we measured it at 166 Watts. Here is that statement:
"We continuously tune our GPUs in order to maximize their performance within their given power envelopes and the speed of the memory interface, which in this case is an unprecedented 8 Gbps for GDDR5. Recently, we identified select scenarios where the tuning of some RX 480 boards was not optimal. Fortunately, we can adjust the GPU's tuning via software in order to resolve this issue. We are already testing a driver that implements a fix, and we will provide an update to the community on our progress on Tuesday (July 5, 2016)."
If this is fixed by software (driver) this likely means it will be throttling down if it hits a certain power state, so if a higher than 150 Watt power state is reached, AMD might be throttling down the cards in the future to meet the proper P state.

For me it was just over a month wait - I pre-ordered it on the 3rd June. The stock came and went straight away through Scan - even after I received the text alert that it had arrived, the ETA on their website was switched to the 15th July.
@Silent_Scone - have you seen the price of the pre-watercooled Sea Hawk cards. Flol - well over £800 for an EK block that won't cost half the difference.
So far - I'm well happy with the performance of it. Cable management and playing with the RGB colouring is on the cards this weekend (small g33k)

lol, yeah. The SeaHawk is a bit special needs. But people who aren't aware just how easy it is to fit a waterblock to a reference card will bite.
You on about the EK version and not the hybrid I take it? I've been eyeing up the hybrid as I don't want to put in an entire loop just for the card, and want to get heat out of the case with limited clearance at the front of the card.

Replacement has been shipped and will be here Monday. Seems like a bad card, tried it in 2 other mobos, one of which was a completely different PC.

I guess it's the added security of a warranty too? A colleague at work has had his 970 based system water-cooled for quite some time. He said the build was half the fun of having it water-cooled in the first place. I guess a lot of people simply don't get that or CBA.
Sorry, yeah - there are two versions aren't there? I did just mean the EK version. But if I have to be honest, I don't really like the aesthetics of it with the water-block on. It sounds a bit much, but with the clear side on the case, the look of the FTW HS&F does look really smart. And the lack of noise compared to my previous twin GTX690s is a nice bonus too.
Get it picked up! Are you on your way now??
