The PS1 looked fine on my TV, even used the old 3 colour plugs without a converter, looked exactly like it did back in the day.

The N64 I bought off a mate in the 90's for peanuts, purely so I'll always have a copy of Goldeneye, I think I've got Legend of Zelda too, graphics aren't as sharp as a PS1.

I've got enough kit to have proper 90's style retro setup, eventually I'll have a crt to play then on for extra authenticity.

They fetch stupid money for some reason. I only realised when I saw one in window at CEX other week

I will probably keep it for the lads to play with when they are older.

I really hope I can get them into game boy era pokemon with link cable trading too

Sorry I worded that wrong. I am still up indecision street and have not bought anything yet but I reckon it will be that 3DS one you linked above, or possibly the ANBERNIC RG Cube but that Ayn Thor 3DS thing is properly cool.

I'm deep into working out what operating system to use for the dual screens to work on the game thing I haven't even bought 😂

I've got one, it got switched on, had a little play and then it hasn't left the drawer since.
Reason being is the micro SD cards they are shipped with are horrendous and are ticking time bombs apparently and can brick the device? So I read anyway.
To over come this, a proper micro SD is recommended and then a manual build of software and ROMs can be loaded and they work well then.

I ordered an SD card. Never got round to the rest. I intend to get back on it soon though as I have a craving for old Pokemon games since putting a GBA emulator on my S25 phone

Yeah this.. I got one for our lad for Christmas and had a little blast last night. Some old games from Gameboy, Sega and N64 really hit that nostalgia spot but I'm not convinced he'll be into it because how old the games look and are. It really shows how far ganes have come in our lifetime. Cheap enough though mind when you consider what you actually get and if he gets bored I'll claim it to use at work or something 😂

Don't get me started on the Roblox stuff either it seems to be all the rage at the minute 😂

I can't remember what game I tried, maybe Zelda. And I was raging that it wouldn't run properly 😂 Literally just stutters every half a second, basically unplayable.

Cool gadget though for the less demanding games.

Nothing plays like it does on original HW imo.

I really love owning retro stuff, don't have loads, but an ok collection. However every time I try and play games from my childhood I am dissapointed.

I think PS2 is the earliest you can really go back to now and still have a quality experience, I've played a little 360 recently too and tbh that is an experience on par with any modern console imo, visually it's not as good as a new console but the gameplay is just as good if not better.

Could you just copy the contents onto a better SD card or does it not work like that?

Yeah, you can, but the base install of the emulation software isn’t the best.

For me, it’s just too small. It’s fun for a while and some games suit it better than others but games designed for a decent sized CRT lose a lot of playability when squished right down into such a tiny screen IMO.

Ok but for the time being it’ll be more secure than keeping it on the orignal SD card?

For me, it’s just too small. It’s fun for a while and some games suit it better than others but games designed for a decent sized CRT lose a lot of playability when squished right down into such a tiny screen IMO.

Screen size doesn’t bother me, form factor does though and should have gone for something with the sticks and buttons by the side of the screen instead of being below it, the triggers on the back are in an awful placement too.

We hard banned Roblox a few years ago, he kept asking recently if he can have it again as 'all his friends play it' I felt bad and semi said yes however I did an epic job of banning it and I've forgotten how to white list it again 😂

Its blocked on the wifimesh, the router, on his laptops antivirus and on his tablet. I've memory blanked doing most of it but I assume if I went to that much effort I had a good reason so... sorry mate... its not coming back.
