Things to look out for????

  Volvo V70R & 182 FF
Hopefully I'm going to take delivery of my G/F's 54 plate 182, What things should i check before i take the keys? I already read that the headlamp jets often fail but what ells can i check at the side of the road?

Thanks

Full service history, its done 46K does it need it? I will ask if you think I should.

Turn the ignition, watch the dash lights for anything suspecious. Make sure the airbag light goes out after coming on etc. Give everything the once over to make sure its all in working order such as electric windows, washer jets. Make sure both seats fold as you would expect. When you start the car listen for any tappet "ticking" symptoms.

Theres nothing clio specific to be honest mate.

So long as the car has been cherished and maintained religiously ot should be fine.

Make sure the car is cold prior to inspection, warm cars hide faults that may arouse during start up so request it be cold.

It all sounds like general stuff to me cheers guys, The Renault dealer faxed me the details of the previous owner today so i gave him a call, he was a photographer slightly older then most Clio owners lol so that was good he said the last service cost him 900 and no expense was spared on the car, he bought the car when it was 1 year old. He's just bought a new RX8 and loves it.
I also got to see the car when it was up on the ramps and it looked clean to me.

If that's true it sounds likely the belts have been done.

He said he just put on 2 new tyres so not sure if that was part of the price, I cant see the guy lying he has nothing to lose now that he doesnt have the car but you never know.
I just wish i could nip back down to see the car again but its about 8 hours away, I always think I forgot to check something.

I hope its all good the body work looked mint (slight scuff on passenger mirror but you can only really feel it) cant wait to detail it. Its got a 2 year warranty so that's a bit of a safety net.

Lol! The sensible thing to do would be to write a list of everything to check before you leave your house. Saying that though I've never done that myself.

Thats what i was thinking hence why i started this thread I'll just print the page :rasp:

Very good idea mate! I had my old boy with me (he's a mechanic/engineer) so I was kinda lucky when I went to look at the 172!

I would recommend taking someone mechanically minded, it'll pay dividends when
it comes to future maintenance!

That's good lad, any warranty is a good idea! There shouldn't be any issues with it so long as its been cared for! Fantastic cars the Renault Sport Range!

Lol. And you'll have a decent drive back if you're 8 hours away from it. 5k kick FTW!

Have you paid extra for the 2 year warranty?

Cambelt is 72k or 5 years, whichever is soonest.

Aux Belt is 36k. All 172's should have had atleast one cambelt and aux belt change and every 182 thats on a 54 plate should be due just now aswell

Brave....! Dont take it to Renault your looking at an £800 bill from them, take it to a specialist, should be around £4-500
