Thinking about a 172 Cup - Advice

Hi all, first post so here goes.

I've found myself looking more and more at 172 Cup's on autotrader and pistonheads quite often recently. I currently have an Evo 6 (weekend toy) and a Polo G40 (daily runner), now i'm looking at outing the Polo as it is basically 17 year old technology and replacing it with a 172 Cup.

I'm just after a bit of advice really, are they any major things that go wrong with them? Are running costs high? What is a fair price to pay for one? Should i be put off by high milage and/or modified examples?

If there is anyone in the Harlow, Essex (CM19) area that would be willing to take me out for a spin in the passenger seat i would be more than willing to put some V-Power in your tank.

Just sold ,my Cup today to a really nice fella today

Had good fun with it for 14 months not much went wrong fella

Try to avoid tracked Cups Im my opinion. The lower the milage the better just check for accident damage and the service history

3 cups i believe, mine which is usually always clean and polished 52 plate, nathans (also a member on here) and one with aftermarket exhaust and alloys. Once the weather drys up a tad i'll be lore than happy to take you out, pm me your number and we can arrange something.

By the way what colour is the evo?

Mine was never tracked in it's life to worried bout the consequences mate .

Just find one thats in good condition really .

I don't think the issue of it being tracked is relevant.

Mine has had a very hard life both on and off track, yet I've religously maintained it, and it's been nothing but A1 from new and for almost all of its 78,000 miles.

Your gut feeling on the buyer and the car's past is what you need to consider.

just cus its been on track doesnt mean its abused, if anything people who use there car as a reliable toy are more likly to maintain the vehicle to a high standard so it doesnt let them down. u could buy a low milage one owned by a lady, who hasnt got a clue, opens it up from stone cold and never checks anything and it could be hanging underneath and waiting to fall apart

Very true. Mine done 46k and went wrong every month . Just joking very very reliable car mate couldn't fault it just lots of wheel spin in the wet

Lots of wheel spin in a 170-odd bhp front wheel drive car is solved by better pedal control nothing wrong with the car

No silver ones for me, it would have to be that sexy blue with the 16" Speedline Turini's and no air con.

If you're using it as an everyday car then I reckon a standard 172 would be better than a cup. Sure the cup is a little lighter and has revised suspension but the 172 has all the nice everyday features like ABS air-con, and xenons! You'll not care about the the few extra kg's when it's 95 degrees in the summer! Sure, the 172 cup looks better in standard form but a 172 with cup spoilers and Turini's would look awsome!! Well, I would say that!

No probs yet after 2 years!! get one mate, just be carefull in winter lol

Get one. had mine 3.5 years now from new. Only thing thats gone wrong is the exhaust fell off and I burst a rear damper. And it managed to give my mate in the elise a fright on the run to Skye and back. Bang for buck you cant go wrong

mine is 3.5 years old ,been tracked and is fine.
Only problem is the crappy inside trim falls apart but as you own an evo that shouldnt really be a problem
