Thinking of buying a ph1 172 for the track

  172 cup and others
I'm thinking of buying a 172 to use as a track car as it's impossible to enjoy a fast car on the road, i'm in the process of selling all the tuning bits off my zafira gsi and returning it back to standard.

I've got between £1500-£2000 to spend on a car, what I'm wanting to no is are the standard cars good to go straight on the track or are there some essentials that are needed. I will eventually be getting better suspension brakes etc but that's going to take time to save up!

Probably best to do the basics and take it from there, alot of people including me have created a track car, spend loads on it and then lost interest and sold it on. Personally I would sort the brakes for piece of mind and get it on the track, the last thing you want on a track day is bad brakes, but then again the same could of said about suspension!

  Mint 1*2's for sale-
if its a track 172 your after I would be looking for a tidy 172 on around 60k with FSH + recent belt change-
Obviously history more importnat than bodywork-

You dont want a minter, but equally you dont want something on stupid miles-

for the above I would budget around 1800 - 2000 to find something of that caliber

  172 track thingy
I would say make sure u have some good rubber on and some not so bad brakes also check over the basics (fluids and stuff) then give it a go so u know where it's stands :)
They are good fun standard but maybe still a little soft for some peoples likin on track.

But then if u want more the Handling being refined will make it a better track car I.e. Brakes, suspension but it depends how much u wana spend once u start changing stuff lol

For a track car a PH1 172 or Ph2 172 or Cup will be good for a trackday motor, find one without aircon, healthy engine, gearbox and fix the other bits yourself. Plenty available.
