I joined this forum this evening, (4TH APRIL 2007), because of this discussion about the Toshiba 37C3030DB which all are commenting about but nobody seems to own! I HAVE ONE!!
I also was gunning for the 37WLT68 but when I asked my local shop about it, (Superdeal, Plumstead High Street, London, SE18), they said I would be better off going for the 37C3030DB - which I did!
My reasons for this was that, I didn't really need the 3rd HDMI port or the 100Hz refresh, (no difference in my opinion - and YES! I have seen both TV's running side-by-side; the WLT68 with 100Hz on and the C3030DB without; absolutely no difference, which makes me wonder if the C3030DB has it anyway!! It was called M100 Active Vision on the WLT68. Now it's just simply called Active Vision LCD on the C3030DB). By the way, the suffix 'DB' just means it has a Freeview Digital Tuner inside - and very nice too, with EPG!
The only choice you have to make is this: Do I want to pay an extra £200 for a GLOSS 'Picture Frame' finish, (WLT68), or am I happy with a Matt 'Picture Frame' finish? (C3030DB).
I have my Xbox 360 connected to a Yamaha DSP-AX759SE outputting to the 37C3030DB LCD, (through Component @ 1080P now!!), AND THE PICTURE IS STUNNING!! Very noticable difference from my previous Sammy 27 inch @1080i. And as for the HD-DVD, (X360 add on one!), THAT IS ON A DIFFERENT FLIPPIN' PLANET!! AWESOME!!!
Also, you need to factor into your purchase that Toshiba are soon retireing the WLT68 - yeah! I know it will be in the shops for some time to come but, the 37C3030DB IS A 2007 MODEL!! (IN FACT, MARCH 2007).
Me personally, if I'm gonna spend money, I want CURRENT TECH and not LAST YEARS! Even though the WLT68 still costs more - and I don't understand why that is!! - the technology is inferior!
Just think, the technology is the 37C3030DB is newer - I know that doesn't always mean better, but in this particular case, IT IS!
(Contrast alone on the 37WLT68 is 3500:1 - now 5000:1 on the new 37C3030DB!)
Paid £705 for mine! This particular shop, (Superdeal), will match Internet prices! Box wasn't heavy at all so if you can, pick it up! I can't stand waiting for delivery!!
Anyway, as a newbie and OWNER of the 37C3030DB, that's my review! Bottom line: I think you'd be a MUG to still go for the 37WLT68 when this beauty, (37C3030DB), of a 37 incher is out!
