Throttle bodies (Williams)

2 questions...(Martin, Ben & jon mite be best to answer)

a/ Moneywise is it the same as a 172/182
b/ Do you need a different head? Think martin had a megane head/valver mani etc? ecu??

Ali

a)Near enough, but you dont have to deal with aircon and there is slightly better space, plus bonnet catch is at the rear of the bay.

b)No, megane head is slightly better, but with the new techniques i've been developing, a 32mm willy head will outflow a 172/182 head that has been modified. Bodies are available for both, but the willy has the less sophisticated setup available, until i finally get round to starting the production run on AWTs own.

All round pukka install is not cheap, cheap prices mean.........

1...depends who you go to to get it fitted i suppose.

2....i use a willy head, meg valves, worked chambers/tracts. most othes iv heard run with meg heads, inlet tracts slightly better shape to be matched with the round body, ecu wise, a standalone is a definate, which one you pick is all personal preference tbh. i used the one supplied with the kit.

the rad is the biggest problem on the williams. imo. everything else is pretty straight forward bolt off bolt on. altho u do need to use a trigger wheel on th ecrank pulley for the kit i have, also on the jenvey set up . pas pipes re routing etc. not hard to do

Those boys with the megane F7R engine are sorted as you can use the flywheel to trigger normally rather than the dual miss clio one.

Sorted, no need for a front pulley anymore.

Yup the Renix 22-1 x 2 is gay. plus if you fit a megane fly you have the benefit of a larger diameter clutch.

pretty straight forward for Ben, Stan and Jon to do, I'd never even attempt to tackle it. cheapest way I suppose is to fit it all yourself and then get an expert to map it, but you will almost certainly need a rad unless you want to start chopping up subframes etc lol.

I think the Jenvey kit will need the Megane head, the Willy one being used for the paired TB kits like the Webber ones... not 100% sure though. Will be worth it either way, but I'm surprised you are thinking of ITB's

Don't get me wrong i love the idea of TB's and the willy is only going to be my summer car/weekend car. I've got something else in the pipeline.

I'm just enjoyin 'NOT' having hassle at the moment...Then again the noise and power of ITB's is somewhat luring!

The thing is that an ITB'd car should be no different in terms of reliability though, the only problems I have had have been the ECU, but the eprom was replaced and it's been fine since. I've almost had it a year and bar that the only problems I have had are replacing 2 engine sensors, a PAS leak and a split fuel line, but they were all standard Renault items. Only other costs have been optional by me... like alarm, tracker, anti-hijack etc etc and it's been almost a year since I bought it. I've done as of today 9k miles in it myself now and as a daily runner...

IMO if done well you could use it as a daily car and it would be no more or less reliable... my only gripe was the speed of which it goes through front tyres... Eagle F1 GSD 3's lasted 3500 miles... but tbh they really should have been replaced after about 2500-3000 miles, I was just loathed to do so after not having them on long...

If/when you get ITB's I'd seriously consider changing the suspension and getting it properly setup to run some camber etc, the PE2's have already lasted 5k with little to no wear at all so far and it grips more coming out of corners. Before it just lit up....

as above if its installed professionally, and set-up correctly there really isnt a reason for problems to occur.

What sort of mpg are you getting?

according to the trip computer between 6-8mpg as an average lol. That's false however (bigger injectors), but around town I get about 200 miles to a tank, on a motorway if I just sit between 3-4k I'll see 400 miles from a full tank.

^ over 300 to a tank! Which proves jon is a girl!

Hummm....I've gone off coilovers. And didn't rate the PE2's as high as all you sperm monkeys!

I drive sensibly 90% of the time... roads are usually too busy to piss around on.

Coilovers are only good if they are setup properly, mine weren't when I got the car. It was low as f**k and handled like crap, but they just needed setting up properly. When they are low I think they just need some more negative camber.

and wash your mouth out, PE2's are the daddy of tyres, cant fault them on this or the Williams

But you can't drive...so your opinion is worthless! ;)

PE2's are not all there cracked up to be.

i dunno.they hold up fairly well on track too.iv chased slick shod and semi slick shod 4 potted clios round places.and not lost all that much ground to the better specced cars..even catching some on th etwisties, but losing out to their higher modded motors on the straights.

ali..u not gunna fit bodies...u too much off a puff.

you were screaming like a girl when you were gettin driven round brunters in the manner these cars should be driven. ;)

Don't buy bodies, by a car with them already on. It's bloody expensive mate and the gains are ok but not planted in the back of your seat imo. You'll soon want more power.

agree with Chris on the buying it already done, but you dont seem short of cash Ali, so I'd throw some on.

While they dont feel insanely fast the power delivery is very linear and deceptive imo. It wont ever have that turbo feeling you get from something like a 300zx

I've not got a job...so cash it used sensibly. Although it's about to get silly again!

Nah if a Tb'd motor like martin's came by i'd be interested.

Jon, i wasn't screaming like a little girl!...I was just being me! lol

Well looks like you just missed out, as the price it went for it was worth buying for the engine alone imo.

Think I'll be keeping mine though, cant see me getting rid of it. It's fast and reliable and wants more power then it will be a dedicated track toy.
