Throttle Bodies... ?

  Italian 3.2 V6
..ok so i found the insurance on the FRS and R27 to be more expensive what i am payin on my current 172.. so instead i am going to keep the 172 and blast aload of mony on it to get some more ooomph out of it :D tbh the flamer is a brilliant car and i would be silly to sell it as its a bargain, gr8 value for money in every area!! :)

so i have started reading into throttle bodies (got an eye for ktecs kit) i didnt relise you could fit them to a total standard 1*2.. so instead of blasting the same amount of money on cams n inlets etc etc i might aswell spend it wisely on ITBs due to the fact i would end up with more bhp from fitting them than going with cams etc.. also want a full de-cat miltek or yozza exhaust system (incl, 182 mani) so im hoping to achieve 200-210 bhp from my 172 in the next few months..

need some advice/input on the ITBs mind,.. are they reliable!?, i take it they need cleaned every so offen etc.. whats the crack with them baasicly?? please fill me in on the needed info to owning these..

cheers, piers.

If your planning to spend 3k plus I would definately be opting for the supercharge :) much better performance seen for similar money to itb's

Supercharger needs omex and that works out at 5k+ as informed by sideways danny

tbh... i dont fancy paying over 3500 lol.. looks like supercharger is out the window.. same with turbo.. dont fancy the idea of that either... throttle bodies seem like a nice upgrade to me, nice n simple (i think lol)

i asume the plug n play kit ktec do is the one to go for and is literaly plug n play.. ?

but what about the looking after them, running costs(fuel) reliability etc etc..

R27 + FRS they came to about an extra 200-300 quid more.. :(

cheers, piers.

For the sake of a few hundred quid extra to insure the others i'd take the others (well one of them) sure your car with tb's will be a weapon, but it'll still be the same car & £3000 ain't cheap.

yea ino.. but dont forget it all adds up with a 10k loan for the R27/FRS lol.. just would end up being too much per month.. i have a limit and getting one of those would go over the limit,, if i got throttle bodies my loan would only be 5-6k.. .. so works out alot cheaper for me...

yes they are much nicer cars etc but just works out over my limit which i can afford to go over atm :(

my insurance fr my 172 is plenty as it is until dec (cough,, 2700..) next year i can afford them but until then i cant.. and i want more out of what im driving atm.. this seems to be the only option ..

TB's couldnt be a worse choice just now if you tried imo

You have a turbo conversion at 2.5k

A Supercup inlet coming up which is said to flow better, give roughly the same results as TB's and for 1500k region

...and the Supercharger kit which produces just about Evo levels of bhp and the potential for silly amounts of power with a sorted bottom end.

As with anything they're simple when done right :) Fitting is available from us (GDI) or K-tec if you're not confident, but there's a very good fitting manual, and the kit is very comprehensive.

Running costs should be fine. You'll only notice higher fuel consumption if you drive hard a lot, normal driving should be almost no different. Reliability is down to how well they're fitted. :)

you can pick up second hand throttle bodies/manifold/ cable throttle for fairly cheap these days on pistonheads/ here/ ebay then talk to k-tec about their plug and play software, would probably work out sub £2500

Wow 2700 for insurance?? Have you checked what it might go up to running bigger bhp? Good should on the supercup inlet there too!

Prep the car and do a few track days.

You'l have soo much more fun for much less money and you'l appreciate the car more.

I've just read that you were looking to get 10k out to buy one of the other cars.

Some will say live for the moment & spunk 3k on the conversion for your car. Personally i'd stay as I was & save up for it. Your only 20 it's not old by any means at all, plus you have your car, so your not doing bad at all.

you are correct n wise with yor advice lol.. i just want MMOOORREE umph to soon lol....

im interested to know more on this "supercup" thing and still want throttle bodies but i do agree with what you are saying.. defo need to get a new exhaust as mine has blown.. so want a better de-cat one (milltek or yozza ?) and am going to buy the 182 manifold to get the best out of that area 1st.. see how tat goes..

but still very keen atm on ITBs for the near future..
