ticking noise (sometimes!)

Hi whats the canister thats located to the rear of the front o/s headlight? Its lower than the light and looks like you get to it by removing the front wheel and plastic inner arch. Mine starts 'ticking' sometimes. Seems to happen if you pull away with really really low revs going forwards or backwards - this also causes the engine management light to come on the dash causing the tickover to fluctuate and stall. Drive a few hundred yards down the road and it rights itself! Any ideas folks ?

C'mon guys, someone must know what this black canister is for! Its got 2 vacuum pipes and 1 small multi-plug going to it. Cheers

Its a carbon canister, to do with engine emissions. Effectively adsorbs fuel vapors.

Ticking is totally normal as it has a solenoid in it.

Sounds like it might be packing up or the sensor in it needs replacing.

Thanks mate. Do you think that it could cause the engine management light to come on which cause the engine to idle erratically ? This only happens sometimes when either reversing or driving very slow in traffic, never when normal driving ! Thanks again
