Timing Belt on Clio RL Prima (94-M)

Ok... my girlfriend has just called me, as her car just packed up, RAC are there, and its the cambelt which has gone (so he says)

She says she was just pulling upto a junction in 2nd gear, say about 20mph, and the car just died, sounded like a bag of marbles & stopped.

Gathering the sounds already heard, its an inteferenc-type engine, so looking at possibility of 8 bent valves, but what are the chances of damage to the pistons/bores because of this, and also the cylinder head?

I'm also wondering how much of a job it will be to do this, and sort it all out, any pointers? tips? im more in with vauxhall engines myself, know them inside out, but these renault ones scare me!

any pointers will be of great use!

Thanks

Paul

IMO you'll be cheaper to just get a secondhand engine rather than dismantling the current one to see what might or might not be wrongs. 94M? Thats an energy engine IIRC - get them for about 50quid thesedays.
