Tips fitting gear linkage connector?

Fitted a different box that was never marked up for the gear linkage pinch bolt, been trying to adjust it for bloody ages now and starting to lose it...

Manage to adjust it for all gears except reverse and when I can get reverse I cannot get 1st and 2nd....as it keeps hitting the left hand side of the gear housing.

I can see lines inside the gear housing by the gear knob are these related to lining up the gear stick? (sorry no pics at hand).

Put the gearbox in third.

Get someone to hold the stick where third should be. Join and tighten.

Works a treat for me every time.
